New tires for the 4M Q7

Hello and good day fellow enthusiasts. I purchased a 2018 Q7 last week. The OEM Goodyear eagle sports were very loud and showing signs of feathering. I didn't care for run-flats so I decided to try the Toyo Proxes ST3 tire in a 295/45/20 size.

I had an alignment done and road force balancing. It feels amazing so far. Seems pretty quiet and the sidewall is stiffer so it's very responsive.

I'll see how it handles in the rain and snow. My previous experience has been with Continental DWS tires, DWS06S, Pirelli P7 Cinturato, Pirelli Pzero All season plus and Toyo Proxes 4 tires. These look and feel promising so far.

Attached are some photos from the install along with my brother-in-law's RS3.IMG_20191207_143350_083.jpegIMG_20191207_143350_084.jpegIMG_20191207_143350_085.jpeg20191204_160920.jpeg20191204_160810.jpeg

New tires for the 4M Q7

I just put DWS06 on the wife’s 2017 Q7. They seem to handle well so far. Drove it out to Eastern Washington and back, through plenty of rain, and some snow on the way back. Not a single butt puckering moment despite there being a 1/2” of snow.

Ended up getting 295/40r21 and while they add a touch more width compared to the stock 285s it’s probably for the best given the wife’s tendency to curb wheels. The 21” Audi RS wheels are too beautiful to curb...

Think I just found my next set of tires. I don’t drive Q7 but have a T3 TDI Touareg with 21” Vorsteiners. The 295/35/21s are a little on the thin side but will def take a look at those DWS06 next time around. Pic for reference.

^I have those same V103's on my cayenne and they are by far the best looking wheel for the money.

I actually bought them a week before I deployed... I managed to destroy two Cayenne Turbo wheels(on the same side) via a submerged pothole that looked to be about 2’ deep. They’re light and the finish is nice, def worth the money.

FWIW. re changing wheels. Have 2016 Q5. Went from 18 to 20"wheels. Bought 20's as new takeoffs in our classified section. Price was $1400 delivered for both new wheels & tires. Had the wheels powder coated gloss black for $450. Sold 18" wheels & tires & new 20" tires. Mounted new DWS-06 tires. 255/45/20. Final cost about $1500. Surprisingly I get compliments on my 2018 oem wheels. They are the latest 20" split 5 spoke Audi wheels for my car.
P S Have hit some really deep pot holes with no damage.

I had Conti's on my A7. There have soft sidewalls and take damage too easily and I'd never go with them again. Had Michelin AWS +3 on my A7 and loved them. They were a little noisier but the handling was fantastic.

Just took the q7 on a 400mi round trip out to Eastern Washington. Went over a couple snowy/icy passes and drove to the ski hill to go tubing. Plenty of snow on the roads and not a single hitch with the DWS06s. However they very willingly stepped out at the gas station parking lot in Cle Elum when I was trying to use the kiddo when mom wasn’t in the car. That was fun!

TL;DR: DWS06 tires are fantastic highway and winter weather tires.

And the Q7 with the adaptive cruise is such an amazing road trip car. It’ll never replace my avant but it’s an amazing car nonetheless.

I believe the DWS06s are the highest rated all seasons in regards to snow traction. We had record breaking snow on Long Island, NY back in winter of 2017 and I had a set on my mk7 GTi.

My wife and I had to get to an important doctor appointment during the blizzard and the GTi drove very confidently while plowing snow with the front bumper.

Originally, I was going to get them for the Q, but decided to try the Toyo Proxies at almost half the cost. I have yet to really challenge the Toyos, maybe in about 4 inches of snow this past Saturday but I'll need more than that to really gauge how they feel in heavy snow conditions.
