    SOLO WERKS S1 COILOVER KIT (A4 S4 B5 QUATTRO, SEDAN & AVANT)

One of the top three mods for any enthusiast is a set of lowering springs or coilovers. Handling and adjustability are coilovers' big advantages. A good coilover design can improve the handling of almost any car, while allowing you to make adjustments in handling characteristics and ride height over time. Not only will the car feel more grounded but a lowered car is also much more visually appealing.

When we received our 2019 Rabbit edition GTI we focused on handling rather than speed. The first item on the list was a set of coilovers and our buddy Jeremy at Solowerks was kind enough to send us a set for R&D purposes and real time feedback. A $500.00 coilover kit? We were skeptical but took the plunge and installed it for Waterfest where our Rabbit was featured in their official booth.

We have used many different suspension setups in the past so we did have a background as far as other setups are concerned. We were familiar with the Koni/Eibach spring kit, and coilover kits from Stasis, KW, and Bilstein.

Installation was a breeze and wasn't any different from any other lowering spring or coilover kit. The quality was actually surprisingly good for a sub $500.00 kit. We set the ride height to eliminate all wheel gap and would consider it a moderate to aggressive drop. The car looked fantastic, but how would it ride? The most common issue with less expensive coilover kits is the ride quality and we were pleasantly surprised with how stock the car felt. In normal day to day driving you could barely notice that the car was lowered which was a big plus on a daily driven vehicle.

It was time to truly put these to the test and we had the perfect opportunity with our 4th annual Foliage Cruise being just around the corner. If you're not familiar with our Foliage Cruise it's a roughly 70 mile spirited drive through some of the most scenic roads that the east coast has to offer. There were lots of twisties that really put the suspension to the test and it performed flawlessly, the Rabbit was quick and nimble through some rather sharp turns and kept us planted the entire ride.

After the cruise was completed we had many of the attendees ask what suspension we were running and they were surprised that we mentioned Solowerks. They asked about some feedback and we couldn't find one negative thing to say. When we told them the price of the kit they were surprised and a few asked if we carried the product. We told them that we did not carry it at that time but after testing it for roughly 6 months we are proud to announce that we are now an official Solowerks vendor.

If you're looking for a budget friendly suspension kit there is nothing on the market that will compare to a set of Solowerks coilovers. They perform as good if not better than many $1,000.00+ kits on the market for a fraction of the price.

    Engineering

The SOLO WERKS engineers utilize their more than 25 years' experience in aftermarket suspension design as well as input from alpha-enthusiasts to produce the products that the market is demanding. Each product has been designed and tested to meet or exceed OEM standards.
    Construction
Our manufacturing partners around the world understand that producing for SOLO WERKS is quality first, and we know that the old adage of "you get what you pay for" has never rang more true than in today's world economy. All of our products start with premium raw materials and undergo specially designed proprietary processes to increase strength as well as minimize material waste.Once the individual components are made, our staff assembles and packages each product to our computerized bill of materials, and each product is weight verified before it is sealed ready for shipment.

    Solo S1 Coilovers

In the case of our Solo S1 Coilover system, these kits are designed for the driving enthusiast that is looking for a comfortable yet sporty ride at a lowered level in the spirit of an OEM Sport Suspension - with adjustable height. These kits are a perfect replacement for your worn and tired OEM suspension or that aged sport kit.
In our Solo S1 Coilover systems we utilize a category leading heavy gold zinc plated coilover strut body to provide a long lasting adjustable experience for our customers. All of the aluminum adjustable spring perches and accessories are precision machined and black anodized.Inside, the sport dampers are tuned to give you the best balance between comfort and handling anywhere within the specified lowering range for each system.

We have focused the tuning of our dampers to greatly reduce:
    • Body roll
    • Dive under braking
    • Squat under acceleration All while retaining ride comfort. This is achieved by increasing the low speed power of the sport dampers from standard OEM settings, and keeping the high speed power of the dampers as close to OEM settings as possible.

So I've had a set on my 2000 B5 for about a year, running 23.5 inches to the fender well. 1/2 inch under the recommended minimum. The bound is a bit soft as would be expected by springs not compressed to load, and the rebound is Quick with a bit of hop. That said I would want 200Lbs more on the front spring, more preload and more rebound damping. These are the comments I would make on the Moton's($8900) I run on a track focused car. For half a grand these are a fantastic value, and will meet the needs of the street tuner and even the novice track day super hero. Completely satisfied. Truth is these were place holders for a very fancy brand I sent out for valve work and rebuild, sold those and run the solos......more loot for HP! and the solos are holding their own.

Solid review. We have 2 foliage cruises and a ton of weekend spirited driving on the rabbit with solowerks, you really won't find a better coilover for under 1k.

Thank you for all the orders over the last two weeks, it seems like a few of the kits were sold out with other vendors.

Our SoloWerks inventory is live so if it shows in stock, it's in stock... no drop ships!

I installed a set this past week. So far feels normal, decent handling without bounciness. I guess time will tell.

Yeah, I am curious about long term review with spirited driving about these coilovers. I installed the Bilstein B8 shocks and H&R sports on my car, and while it was nice and firm before (not neck or spine shattering but felt like a brand new car), it eventually started getting bouncy after a few spirited drives on the track. If these shocks maintain a nice and new feeling, I'll happily swap over to them, but for now, something with dampening rebound adjustment is in my future once these shocks give out.

We have roughly 17k miles on the coilovers and the car sees a lot of spirited driving. Superpro sway bars and end links (front and rear), tyrolsport deadset kit, racingline rear body brace, and inserts. The car is on rails and does exactly what we wanted it to do.

Very cool. Appreciate the response. Now how about info about just the B5 S4 and these coilovers alone?

Wouldn't know to be honest, haven't had a B5 S4 in over 10 years now but we do have some local enthusiasts running these coils on their B5 S4's and they seem fairly happy so far.
