    Question on Xtrons android Unit.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Information on reverse screen goes black do the following

    Settings/Car/Extras/Reverse Volume: on

Settings/Car/Factory Settings (pass: m123456)/Other/Prohibit Reverse: off

    Android ROM: Hal9k Mod v4

So i'm about to pull the trigger on the unit but i know on the other thread of android units theres a lot of info on other units but not the xtrons. Seems like a great price for les then $300. It says 4gigs of ram and 64 internal memory. I don't want one 2gigs ram since it tends to get laggy over time. Is this unit plug and play on the radio i have? Is symphony 1 with the cassettee.Screenshot_20191204-014235.jpegScreenshot_20191204-014247.jpegScreenshot_20191204-014251.jpegScreenshot_20191204-014254.jpeg

I have bought the xtrons 8” unit, tested on a donor car I have and I like it, I left it running 2-3 days playing sound cloud continuous on high volume, I know it’s not that of a test but that al I have done, once I have time will install in my B7 and fingers crossed

Is xtrons 8 any different? You got the 4gig ram or 2 gig ram one?

Yeah see androids get very laggy with 2gigs after some time. But as long as you dont put a whole bunch of apps should be ok. I'm paying a little more for the 4 gigs. Do you like it so far?

Standard apps only plus obd11 is all what I’m after, I should be fine.

the last 15 pages from the head unit thread is about xtrons...

I got mine since they released the 4gb 8cores version, back in january 2018. Still working great, mine didn't have a massive ground loop sound, very minimal with headlight on only, it took a few reading here to make me realize there was a buzz @ volume 1.
Glad to see they're back with the rsne look. For a while they were selling the very old version with 2gb.

But mine got the ''navi'' button where your picture shows ''mute''.

Waze+music+few back ground app running, 4gb is the bare minimum to keep the headunit for few years. 2gb is fine for now, but wont be that so fine in 2-3 years.

On your base symphony 1, this will work, but I can't tell if its gonna be plug and play. You have direct amp output and RCA output, with a cheap hi-lo converter included.

The wiring harness for the XTrons I got in 11/2018 was plug-n-play with my non-Bose stock radio. 15 minutes to do the swap. No noise, other than the standard Android audio hiss that only shows up at high volume levels. I threw a hotspot in my glove box for internet service to the Xtrons. I like the unit and think it's a good buy.

the octocore models use a slightly older SoC (PX5), whereas the latest use a hexacore SoC (PX6) which is about 2-3x faster. Having used both units, I would only recommend buying one with a PX6. See my review/info post near the end of the aftermarket head unit thread.

yes I have the icon, I can change colors or rainbow it.
Leaving it on red, and color match is on point

What's the difference between the symphony 1 and symphony 2? I have the non Bose and was wondering if it was plug and play too.

Symphony 1 has cassettee symphomy 2 is no cassettee and a bit more modern. But verified both are plug and play for non bose and bose as well.

Alright cool, I saw on the eBay listing for those units and saw that there was weird stuff you had to do or the rear amplified speakers wouldn't work. I guess I have the symphony 1 then since I have the cassette.

    this is incorrect.

The Symphony (I) was found on the B5/C5 platforms. The B6 and early B7 have the Symphony II, which has the tape deck. Late B7's have the Symphony II+, which doesn't have a tape deck. The II uses the older ISO style connectors, whereas the II+ (and RNS-E) use the quadlock connector.

Completely separate from that is the Bose/Non-Bose system, which from the HU POV changes which speakers are powered by the HU (front for non-Bose) and which are powered by the rear amp (rear for non-Bose, all for Bose). If you have a non-Bose system, it's almost certain that you will need to use a line-level adapter attached to the HU's rear speaker-level outputs in order to get proper volume on the rear speakers. This is true for all aftermarket HU's, not just these Android units.

I have symphony 2 with cassettee i keep reading something that you have to modify something for the rear speakers to work. Did you plug everything and your rear speaker's work fine?

I believe, at least from what I have read, is that you have to wire in a line level converter on the two rear amplified speakers

Honestly I have never setup a HU like that all I know is that our antennas are digitally amplified so if they aren't getting power then they won't really work. Are you getting anything from the fm(like white noise) or are you not getting anything?

Gotcha. You'll have to let me know what you find since I plan to install one of these units soon

you clearly don't have anything hooked up to the dual FAKRA antenna connector (two round white ports on far side of head unit). If you have a Symphony II, then you need to use an adapter since your antenna connector is the older type. Something like this: https://www.ebay.com/i/222799850834
    2012 TT-RS | Sepang/Ebony
2014 Allroad | Glacier/Ebony (sold and bought back)

    Sold: 2007 RS4 | Sprint/Ebony

    RIP 2002 A4 2.0TQM Denim/Ebony, 243k
    FWD->AWD, Bische-tuned GT2871R

it's either an app or under Settings/Car, and likely called out in the included owner's manual

edit: and honestly, your best source of info on these units is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android-auto
