2016 2.0T premature water pump and thermostat failure

The waterpump/thermostat on my 2016 A3 2.0T had to be replaced at just 60,000 miles. Audi did not offer any ‘good will’ help with this; even though I am still under the time limit for the warranty. I suspect they are punishing me for being a DIY maintenance person. I have all my records and was still denied.

I have raised this again with AOA as I find the failure of a durable part this early in the life of the vehicle unacceptable. In addition, there is no schedule for anything related to the cooling system in the early life of the vehicle so what one has to do with the other escapes me.

Anyway, the part they installed for the thermostat is 06L-121-111-M and for the water pump it’s 06L-121-012-H. Does anyone know if these are upgraded parts from what came originally? If not I expect I’ll be viewing these as maintenance items down the road. It’s frustrating that what should be a durable item is no longer considered so.

I will wait to hear from AOA as to why I’m denied any consideration in the meantime.

That's about how long it lasted in my A4. Changed it myself a couple times, and refreshed the timing belt while I was at it. A bit of PITA, but no biggie.

I have a 2015 S3 with 25k miles on the clock. I just had my water pump/temp housing replaced after it was found in the very early stages of leaking during my 25k service and oil change. Luckily, it was covered under my aftermarket extended warranty.

I don't see are cars on the list of cars... I would like to know if are cars water pumps are part of the recalls as my water pump has just started to go I think.

After looking into this more the recall is for the electric (after run) coolant pump may short circuit and/or overheat, potentially leading to a vehicle fire.

So not are cars or the mechanical water pump that are cars have issues with.. :(

A3s were not recalled. Unless you’re still under warranty you will have to pay for it. They will also replaced your thermostat as well along with waterpump

I also had a slow coolant leak at 20,000 miles and water pump was replaced under warranty. The housing is plastic so I wasn't surprised at all..

My 16 s3 just developed a leak with the water pump as well, I only have 35k miles on my car and it was found at the 35k service but I’m out of my warranty already 😑 looks like this isn’t an uncommon thing for these cars though so maybe there should be a recall on premature water pump failures for the 8v platform

My RS3 water pump failed with less than 5,000 miles. VAG is just terrible in this regard.
