Audi RS3 2017 Rear Diff Failure

Goodbye rear diff, you went through so much and kept it together for so long.

    You wont be missed.

On an off note, anyone know what the knocking could actually be? Still driving all 4 wheels and the sound is rotational to the speed but the knocking is quite loud.

Oil change was done and the diff oil was much blacker than it should be. I found one tiny shard and that was it. Checked haldex oil and all was good on that end.

Whats the total ballpark cost for a repair like this? I have no idea. Just curious.

Is that something tracked by the ECU like flash dates and # of ignition starts?

About $6K with labor for a new Rear diff, complete with new haldex controller.

Purchased a new rear diff for 1650 Euro. Thats around $2600 Aud + another $580 labour to get it installed.

I'll definitely open the broken one up and see what the issue was.

As for what I was doing, floored it on a downramp connecting to a highway, didnt even launch it.

There was no initial indication of failure. No explosion, no bang. Didnt feel a single thing. Once i started slowing down i heart the mad knocking sound and my heart sunk.

Hi , i had the similar issue with my 2016 Rs3 and had it changed out and interestingly Audi had 2 revisions from the original part, current being Part number - 0CR525010N. Looks like a possible manufacture problem.. !!
Was there coding required or was it just a plug and play, as I been advised by my workshop.

I'm sorry this happened to you! Is Audi going to take care of it for you?

Audi quoted me $8495 for a new differential with labour being another $4155. Went online and found a german supplier for 1/3 of that price just for the differential with labour being only $580.
Also my warranty has been voided due to the modifications on my car.

If something like that would happen to me I would disconnect the driveshaft and drive the car in FWD if that is possible, at the mean time I would just look for a used one of a third party company that could provide a rear Diff. Do you mind sharing the name of the company that had the rear Diff for much less? good luck with everything
8V RS3 [email protected] mph (ran a few 11.7s stock and ran 118+mph several times)
8Y RS3 k&N filter ran [email protected] (ran 11.6 5 times and trapped 120+ several times)
    at 3100ft elevation

Is disconnecting the drive shaft to drive FWD only a big task? Diff wont be for atleast another 10-15 days and life would be much easier driving than catching public transport. Place is called Jonker Huissen in the Netherlands.

You can remove power from the Haldex and the car will be in FWD mode. The dash will light up like a Christmas tree though

Is that done by removing some fuse in the fuse box?

Do a search for ‘Haldex switch’. I tried to copy the link, but the app keeps crashing.

Removing the driveshaft won't do anything, the rear diff is still turning if the tires are turning

I'm not positive this is a long term solution but just Install a burnout box.. You'll be able to go FWD with the push of a button.
