    $1,300 for wheel bearing

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I purchased a 2015 A6 last month and took it in today to get the oil changed, battery checked, and wheel bearings. Long story short I got quoted $500
to replace the battery and $1,300 for left front wheel bearing. I had them replace the battery, but the quote for the wheel bearing sounds high. Is this the normal pricing, this was my first experience with servicing an Audi. I’m coming from an 08 GS350, and never took it to the shop. Also, the SA contacted Fidelity for a warranty claim and it was denied.

Take it to Firestone or something like that I had one go bad years ago it cost me like $175, I'd tell that dealer to shove it.

At an Audi dealership $800 - $1000 is not out of the ordinary for a wheel bearing and take your car to Batteries Plus for the battery. Find a good independent repair shop that specializes in European cars. If you did not take note of the maintenance cost difference between your Japanese and your German car, you are in for a rude awakening.

I thought the battery had to be programmed to the car so that it wouldn’t degrade quicker. That is the only reason I let them do it. Status report said the battery tested at 428 vs 520 cold cranking amps. Battery, oil change, and 85,000 mile service was a little less than $800. I relied heavily on the ClubLexus forum to diagnose and repair my car. I plan to do the same using this forum. I’ll buy the bearing and have some Indy shop install or I’ll do it myself

Over this past year had all 4 wheel bearings replaced, 2 at a time, and each time it cost that. Went to a local alignment specialist, not Audi. My only oil change at the dealership cost me 300 dollars, can’t imagine what this work would have cost.

Take it to an indi shop and save yourself a $1000... Had 3 already replaced on mine, at $300CAD per corner with a *** bearings.

Not sure why the ***, but replaced mine with F.A.G. bearings.

    $500 to replace a $200 battery????????

I know there is programming involved but there should not be $300 for labor to replace the battery and program it. Takes less than 30 minutes to change a battery and if you have VCDS you can program the battery yourself.

I won’t be going back for any work unless I have too. Any recommendations for a good shop in Oklahoma City? I just moved here.

Is this programming essential? What does one do if one must replace the battery, doesn't want to go to the dealer, and doesn't have VCDS?

The SA said the battery would degrade faster if it wasn’t programmed to the car. You could change the battery and it would still work, but the cars computer would still be set to the prior battery’s levels. Really just unnecessary to have a battery programmed to the car.

Question : If one replaces the OE battery with a new OE one with same features ( CCA, Mfg., Model, etc ), is VCDS needed ?

BTW : my Indy charges $ 85 USD for oil service, plus tax -- not much more than my retail cost of the oil and filter ! And service includes the other checks for the Standard service

I see that Audionlineparts.com charges $ 300 for the hub & bearing assembly ( 8K0-407-607 ). Sound like a DIY candidate to me.

Payed 240 for a front wheel bearing labor only. I think part was also another 90$ for f.a.g.

If you have (or buy) VCDS, there's a youtube video on how to code your new battery in the ECU. IMO that's a much better use of $150-300 depending on which setup you get (assuming you don't already have it).

I plan on hopefully getting it done while I’m back in Houston/Katy before thanksgiving. I just need to find a decent shop.

$350-400 sounds more accurate for a battery. and wheel bearing should be more in the $800 range. unless their labor rate is crazy high. i know west palm beach audi's labor rate is over $300/hr which is insanity. but that area has lots of $$$. normal audi labor rate is typically is the $150/hr range.
