My car is a 2007 Audi A3 8P. I have LED bulbs installed for my rear turn signals that do not throw a CANBUS error. I went to install LED's for side turn signals (194 / T10), but this causes a bulb-out warning, even though seller sold as "CANBUS error free". I'm unsure if the turn signal circuit load is shared, or isolated (tail lights are a real pain to remove, so I don't want to go through that labor of removing to test this theory).
I found a video about disabling the bulb-out warning for the A3. The instructions are:
Select 09-Cent.Elect.
Select Advanced --> Coding-07
Open Long Coding Helper
Click on Byte 18
Bit 0 = License Plate Lights
Bit 1 = Brake Lights
Bit 2 = Fog Lights (front)
Bit 3 = Fog Lights (rear)
Bit 4 = High Beam
Bit 5 = Turn Signals
Bit 6 = Reverse (backup) Light
Bit 7 = Side Turn Signals
However... this is "cold diagnosis." Which means, that disabling this setting (e.g. Bit 7), will only avoid the CANBUS bulb check at power-up. Once you use the turn signals, the bulb load is checked and an error is thrown.
I paged through all of the Central Electric pages... and I don't see any other setting I could change. So can anyone here confirm if this is completely futile and that the only way to defeat it is to install resistors for the side turn signals? Or, is there some other technique that won't involve splicing wires? Thanks.
