Hey guys, after doing a bunch of research and testing I found a setup that works for me.
Here’s how it goes
Baby resonators deleted (xpipe instead)
Suitcase changed to rs7 suitcase
Mufflers from a b8.5 s4 (gutted:repacked, welded one side) *insanely difficult but worth it*
H pipe added infront of rs7 resonator.

End result is
0 drone
Loud when your on throttle.

hpipe added 5-8 inches infront of rs7 resonator *deepens sound*
0 drone loud on wide open throttle.

Is it just an x-pipe with Magnaflow branding or something with a little bit of effort behind it? Wondering if there is a less expensive option if it’s just an x-pipe.

It’s almost exactly like the magnaflow 11386 that people use for the original suitcase delete but this is bigger so I’m assuming a deeper sound and less drone?

I wanted loud and deep but I didn’t achieve that I used a 11385 In place of the stock center resonator and something doesn’t sound right..


My current setup is
Stock downpipes
11385 in place of center suitcase
Stock s4 mufflers


The sound is decent but it’s almost as if the 11385 has the sound bouncing around inside.. The whole system is now quieter than stock with most of the noise coming from the center of the car any ideas?

I honestly wouldn’t do a muffler delete, I tried it and it had heavy drone.


Try going for either vibrant muffler or

S7 mufflers

I've modified exhaust on plenty of cars over the years. Made lots of costly mistakes relative to drone and volume level, but also enjoyed a few true gems.
At this phase of my life, and with an A6, I'm enjoying the smooth, silent mode. :)

The A6 has an xpipe already pre suitecase (atleast it is in my case on a 3.0T). I just removed the suitecase and it is good for my taste, not super loud, zero drone and you can hear the car.

I agree, and it's why I haven't done it yet. Most of what I've read is that the rear muffler delete sounds really good. But that doesn't seem to be the case in this thread.

$200 with new black chrome tips and they'll put them back back to stock for free if I don't like.

I had them do my son's Golf, his VR6 Jetta (lucky little shit BTW it sounds awesome) my 911 and now the A6.


It'll take them 40 minutes.

It sounds really good but yes it does drone in the 1800-1900 range. I monkeyed with it in Dynamic mode and with it in D/S shifting mode and found some good ways to minimize the drone. At cruising speeds in town on the highway all is good.

I like it and will keep it like this.

I'll get some better footage it sounds better than this video shows. The boy has a dslr with a nice muffled shotgun microphone.

I think that sounds great John! And some rasp at 1800-1900 isn't a big deal since I'm never actually cruising at that RPM anyway. Think I'll get this done pretty soon.

What size exhaust tips did you get? Looks like there is room to go a little bigger? I was contemplating finding an S6 diffuser and getting a dual tip to get a visual upgrade too.

Yeah there's a little room. Not sure of the size though bud. Maybe 4" in outer diameter. They about the same size as the original.

EDIT - confirmed the tips are the same size as stock

I like the blacked chrome finish. Actually the same tips my 16 year old picked for his VR6.

It sounds great and passed the spousal test too. Then again she rides in my 911 all the time so this is nothing.

It not sure that's going to work. It's very low. Road surface variations make more noise than the minuscule amount of rumble at cruising speeds.

Our microphone won't pick it up, know what I'm saying?

EDIT - just did a two hour drive on I43. We get a hum at 75-80 and after 80 it's stock. Still meets Spousal Approval Thresholds.

Thanks for the quick response! It's much appreciated. The only reason I ask is because I do a lot of highway driving, I put $30,000 on the card a little over a year, so having no drone is very important to me. I think I'm just going to do it, and worst case scenario I'll just undo it and do the suitcase delete.

Based on my last couple days I would say if you are resistant to drone I would try a different method. I love the sound but do have to say there is drone as you accelerate from a stop to 60mph. The fact it's an 8 speed means you keep bumping into the drone zone.

Next guy...try the suitcase delete.

sounds great. my 13 s4 i did a muffler delete and it sounded almost identical to that. ive read a lot of people saying how the 2 cars are tuned different so theyll sound different. doesnt seem to be true based on the video. i ended up putting a magnaflow in place of the center resonator and it gave it the perfect amount of raspyness.

they arent tuned different, the a7 just has a open trunk design making it drone more than the a6. thats what ppl dont realize

If you ever plan on going with mufflers again

Try vibrant performance ultra quiet resonators

Or

Their street power mufflers


They reduce drone while keeping the sound pretty high

Are you planning on deleting the suitcase, and keeping the rear mufflers deleted? From what I've read, that gets quite loud.

Bummed that you're not happy with just the rear delete. Would have been nice for the cheap method to work out lol
