Give me ideas for lightweight and affordable 18" rims

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My commute suddenly went from 3 miles to 35 miles @ 80 mph. I am now focusing on longevity of my suspension components.

Looking for ideas on a lightweight and affordable set of 18" rims.

Currently running 19" RS6 replicas which weigh about 30 lbs. My OEM 18" 5-spoke rims weigh about 26 lbs. There is a noticeable difference in my driving feel when I go from the 30 lbs to 26 lbs wheel.

Looking for something in the low 20 lbs range for under $1000. Is this possible?

    Thanks.

PS: this is not a classifieds request. This is a discussion on lightweight rim options.

You should also include that you're wanting TUV/JWL certified wheels

Racingline has their cup wheels available in a 18x8.5. Those come in under 22lbs each and are reasonably priced! They are also TUV approved.

You can of course never go wrong with APR's Flow Formed wheels either. Those don't come in a 18", but do come in a 19"x8.5" and actually weigh a little less than my above mention. Those come in at 21lbs each. Those guys are also TUV approved.

We have also done a couple sets of the Konig Flow Formed series and were pleasantly surprised with the quality. There are tons of options but where you land depends on your own tastes as well. If you would like the best pricing possible feel free to shoot me a PM and I can get you setup!

    Happy modding!

^^I can only find the Racingline wheels with the smaller 57mm bore, so they will not fit our 66.6mm bore.

From my research, it seems the best options so far are:

    VMR V710 18 x 8.5 et 35: weight 23 lbs
Avant Garde 18x8 et 35. Weight: 21 lbs (need to confirm this weight).

Both of those are available for $900 new.

    VMR V810 18x8.5 et 35 come in at 20.8 lbs for $1300.

    Alzor 030 18x8 et35. Weight 22.9. $620.

    Any other ideas out there?

We may have a winner with Konig Rennform 18X9 5X112 ET45 Matte Grey listed at under 19 lbs on their website and can be had for $211 each.

If you get these, can you post a pic on this thread? Thanks

Will do. They are even cheaper from TireRack ($205 each). I am debating between 18" or 19".

    18 x 9 et 45 = 18.8 lbs. Continental Extreme contact sport tires = 23 lbs. Total weight 41.8 lbs.

19 x 9.5 et 45 = 20.8 lbs. My current Hankook v12 evo could be used which are 25 lbs. Total weight 45.8 lbs.

My current setup is 53 lbs per corner. The 18s would represent total un-sprung mass savings of 45 lbs. Pretty significant.

Remember, I am prioritizing fuel economy and suspension component longevity, so I might be able to tolerate going back to 18". Not sure.
