    2016 vs 2017 S6

Been reading through here some and just found the thread about being able to enable Android Auto on the 2016.5 S6. Can anyone tell me when the .5 started?

Anything that would make it worthwhile getting the 17 over the 16? I understand longer warranty.

    Which options are a must?

I am car searching now and not set on the S6, but it seems like a good option especially with a tune.

I am also looking at 2014 Panamera GTS and 2014-2015 E63 AMG.

I've owned a B5 & B8 S4 in the past. Not sure if I should buy another Audi or try something new.

Thanks for any insight and opinion

My must-haves when I started shopping (excluding color) was: LED headlights, black optics, sports package. My wish-list was prestige because of the HUD, but guaranteeing the LED headlights was nice.

I bought a prestige model without either of the other two packages. I had a black optics S6 right next to my current car and felt like the non-black optics actually had more character. It looked nicer... more luxurious. It did help that the prestige (current car) was in flawless shape. I may end up getting the all black RS6 style grille and even vinyl wrapping the window trim, negating my point here.. but just know that for relatively low dollars, you can "retro fit" a black optics package. As for the sports package, the most alluring item included was the superior exhaust. However, I plan on going aftermarket any ways, so the sports package ended up being a nice add-on if I found one with it. Audi exhaust really seems to be lacking, TBH. Funnily enough, the thing I regret most about my purchase was not getting the black headliner... not even the Alcantra headliner, I just mean the regular black one. So I went from black-optics + sports being must-haves to prestige (for HUD and LED) and black headliner. Mine has the 20" wheel package which looks way better in person than in photos. I have the cold weather package as well but haven't been through a winter yet.

Any ways, those are my random ramblings on packages. I believe the 2016.5 is on all US spec'd S6 cars, so you're solid on either '16 or '17.

Thanks for the info. I have seen some with the I guess it's the sport steering wheel with the flat bottom. Is that with a package or difference between Prestige and PP? I want that wheel

flat bottom wheel is standard. Cold weather package adds heating steering wheel which deletes the flat bottom. I was ambivalent between the 2 (flat bottom looks awesome (had it in my S5 and loved it) but ... heated steering wheel is nice)

If you plan to track the car, the sports package would be more appealing due to the limited slip diff

That's a bummer. Heated wheel is nice for sure, but the flat bottom looks awesome. No plans on tracking the car.

Only differences for MY2016 vs later model years are that apple car play/ android auto come natively on MY2017 and later, and the sport package comes with red calipers on MY2017 and later.

I purchased a brand new 2018 S6 back in February with a killer discount/incentive. It was spec'd exactly as I wanted but had the "cold weather package" which I knew eliminated the flat bottom, thicker steering wheel (which I had in my 2013 S4). After living with the car for nearly 8 months, it's really not that bad (heated wheel was nice when it was cold, have it on my Denali as well) but I still find myself wanting for it occasionally. Should also add that cold weather gets you heated rear seats which is nice if you typically have occupants back there.

As far as options........ I pretty much wanted a Prestige for the window shades (I have a young child in a car seat), top view camera which is nice for parking in tight spots to avoid damage to your wheels and front lip. LED headlamps are really nice as well. If you're buying used and can source a car with the B&O audio, it's a nice upgrade!!!! S Sport package and Black optics were must haves when I purchased my car. Also had to avoid comfort seats and have Carbon Atlas inlays...... wood trim looks like A$$

Should be noted, at least on 2016s, the top view camera is part of the driver assist package, not the prestige.

So many packages and options and colors oh my.

Trying to narrow it down last night, now I can't remember. There are two for sale at local Audi. Hopefully they are still there next week when I have a day off so I can do some test driving.

    Here my list so far:
    -Prestige
-Cold Weather I'm undecided. I can wear gloves, the flat bottom looks so much better
-Comfort seats sound good having the massage function, but the sport seats look much better and the bolstering is probably better.
-Don't think I need Drivers Assist
-Would like B&O if I can find it, but not a deal breaker
    -Sport Package
    -Black Optics
    -Carbon inlays

That's a good list. I really wish high beam assist was standard on prestige or both rather being lumped in with the drivers assist package - that's what I miss most on that package. What colors are you looking at?

Hi beam assist is pretty awful on my Grand Cherokee, but works well on my wife's Volvo. It is a nice feature when it works.

Pretty much any color except black. Both of my S4 were black. Grey, blue, red, darker silver, maybe white. Interior I don't really care.

Automatic high beams. It turns on when no cars are in sight and then turns off if it sees headlights or brake lights. (For the most part)

Personally I think high beam assist is a little overrated. I suppose it depends on where you are. I've noticed that it tends to turn off high beams when it senses the reflection from road signs.

That's been my experience with other cars too.

I find it overrated too, you can easily do it yourself. It's supposed to make night driving "less stressful" but honestly, if it consumes too much brainpower to flick a lever on/off yourself at night you probably shouldn't be driving.

My only driving experience with it is with my wife's '16 Rav4. I think it's very well done in it and expected Audi to be even better. I've been passenger in a '15+ Lexus RX300 (?) and it seems to work well there too.

Funny you mention a Rav4. I rented a '18 Rav4 with it and it did perform pretty well. Reflective signs would turn it off but it otherwise worked pretty well. Couldn't figure out how to turn it off though, since the 'on' position activated the high beam assist by default.

Sport Package, LED Headlights, Black Optics, and Drivers Assist in that order. Prestige does have HUD and Auto Close Trunk but not deal breakers for me at least.

Bought my 2016 S6 in Late July....

my only solid - requirements were sport package, black optics, carbon inlays & sport seats.

anything else would be a plus, depending on mileage and color. (aside from losing the flat bottom SW)

wound up finding an AE color s6 in the 11th hour of a deal on a Daytona Grey one...

    Still searching.

I did get a chance to drive a 2016 with sport package it was a Premium +.

Stock seemed like it had plenty of power. Not sure the extra 100+ that the E63 has is really necessary. Having better tech and better looking are probably more important and I can always tune if I feel the need later.

Found a nicely optioned 2017 P+ , but doesn't have LED headlights. Opinions on whether this is a big deal?

I’ve never seen a s6/s7 while I was shopping without LED headlights standard, not sure if it was mentioned but I believe in 2017 they had the sequential headlamps/mirrors/taillights

Up through 2017, the Audi S6 had LED headlights standard with prestige & optional $1,400 for premium plus models.

The 2018 Audi S6 had LED headlights standard for premium plus and prestige models.
