Non-OEM Rear Plate Bracket (Cheap Replacement)

    Here goes my first thread.

Hopefully someone else will find this useful.

The rear license plate bracket was stripped out when I bought my car, even damaged the paint due to the nut spinning. A new bracket cost anywhere between $100-$140 which is ridiculous especially for something that just holds the plate in place. I bought this bracket on Amazon and installed it today. Nothing needed any modification, it just bolted right on. I used the original screws and the washers that came with the new bracket. However, if you want to use a license plate frame, you will need longer screws that what came with the bracket. I'm making this post because I couldn't find much information on after market brackets. I found some saying they used 3M tape on the back of the nuts which I tried but that was just a "band aid". Below is the link to the bracket and photos of the installation.

Nice Find! I went through this problem recently but was able to jb weld the nuts together to the plastic frame for a more permanent repair. I might order one of these just to make it cleaner though.

Thanks! I put 3m tape on the back of the nuts which was good for one time use. I may order another one of these and make my own tow hook bracket for the front. I'll update if I do.

Nice thanks for the share! I bought a black audi sport frame I was all excited about then realized the thread of the oem plate mount fell out in 2 spots(its like a little metal threaded piece that appears to be glued in?) so I have this cool plate frame held on by 2 screws and it looks stupid. I'll have to pick one of these up. Good first thread! haha

Yeah when I bought my car it only had three screws installed in the plate. You can try a short term fix that I came across on YouTube. If you still have the two pieces that fell out, you can put 3M tape on the back and stick them in. It may be just enough to get those screws installed. If you do go with the bracket I posted above and want to use your sport frame, you'll need longer screws.

Awesome! Post a pic when you get it installed.

One thing I didn't do was heat up the OEM bracket just like when you debadge a car. They may help it come off a little easier.

Awesome man, I'm glad I could help someone else out. There was no way I was going to pay $120 for a new bracket. Now you gotta do the front . I removed the OEM bracket (2 screws and 2 clips), installed Extreme Online Store Tow Hook Bracket ($45). Much thanks to EvoToSQ5 for providing me pictures and info about it. Here's the link where I bought it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also did the amazon bracket. Only issue is the 4 plate screws provided have started to show signs of rust after about 7-8 months, but figment is perfect

Many of us have this amazon plate and some of us have even modified it to be magnetic.

In respect to toe hook mounted plates. What’s the point? Stock location seems by far optimal visually and for aerodynamics

Bumping this. How did you get the old residue off that the original OEM license plate holder had? Its on the paint under the frame and I don't want to do anything until I hear how you got it off.

Do a YouTube search or google search there is hundred ways to remove that old 3m tape and see what you feel comfortable doing.
I use the 3m rubber eraser that doesn’t damage the paint and gets the job done fast. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/t...MaAkpkEALw_wcB
It is a little expensive but there are other aftermarket options cheaper.
