    Q7 Battery Life

Just wondering what he general life expectancy is for the battery. I have a 2015 Q7 since new & just had it replaced. Yes, I know that batteries would be considered a “normal” wear & tear item. However, the battery on my 2013 RS five is the original and shows no sign of losing any of its ability having recently been tested and found to be in great shape. Both vehicles are meticulously maintained by an Audi dealership, are current and up-to-dates/all recommended/required services. Additionally both vehicles are garaged at night and the only time they are outside is while we are at work.
BTW, for those of you who don’t know, for my generation Q7, the battery is under the driver front seat.

That is a more familiar time frame (although a bit more than I would have thought) for replacing the battery. I’ve owned many Audi’s over the years (since 1985) and over 5 years doesn’t/didn’t seem like an unreasonable time frame for the battery to last. Just struck me as odd that this one only lasted ~ 4 years.

Yeah, the battery was deffinayely on its way out. Only took one time off killing it for it to never come back

Most newer Audi's and cars in general have a battery life of closer to every 4-5 years. After that you are on borrowed time.

i took my car in for an inspection and they said my battery needed to be replaced, its a 2015 as well. I guess Im just waiting for it to die to replace it. Are there any cons behind that? Or should i replace it before it completely dies?

Cons: leave you stranded like mine did. Pros.... well.. you don't have to swap it often. Lol

Audi of Nashville, TN quoted me $200 after the battery replacement for some scanner to read the radio code once you lose power no sounds.

    Sounds like bs.

Mine never went totally dead but wouldn’t hold a charge despite 3 separate overnight trickle charges. Never lost any of the preset functions (seat positions, garage door opener codes, radio presets etc) but if what 09S5 relates is accurate, an unnecessary expense IMHO. Since you don’t live in a “cold climate “ area I suppose you could wait but TEHO. BTW, if you are mechanically inclined (I am not) there is a YouTube video showing how it is done. I choose to avoid the embarrassment of having my vehicle towed out of my garage d/t my overestimation of “easy “ it would be to swap it out. Good luck 👍

Lately I been having to reprogram the presets for the radio , maybe that a beginning of a red flag for the battery 5yrs old battery.

My rear view camera stopped working....thinking it might be the battery. I have the jhm tune...does anyone know if I will have to re-flash it if I change the battery?

That is BS, the car wont lose the radio code unless you pull the radio out of the car.

Putting in a new battery does require recoding the car though, which is probably what they were not doing a good job of explaining. The car has a batter manager and will charge a new battery differently than an old one. Here are the steps to do it, which requires VCDS.

Thanks! This looks like coding for the new battery? Do you know if I will have to reflash a tune if the battery is pulled?

Shouldn't effect the tune, at least I never had any issues with my APR tune on other cars.
