    ABS Module Repair?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know there was a member here that was doing it, but I don't remember who it was.

I totaled my Avant on Friday and am looking for a replacement. I found one with really low miles, but the owner said that it has a permanent wheel speed sensor fault and the speedometer isn't working because of the abs module. I'd like to get an idea of what it will cost to repair so I can factor that into my negotiations.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I believe it's around $120.00 but it looks like they might be down right now. Send them an email.

    I had similar problem.
I sent my old ABS ECU to repair

OK, perfect. Thanks for the link.

And if I'm not mistaken, these are the style that you can remove the module from the assembly and not have to break the brake system open to remove and send in, correct? And even possibly drive the car if need be with the module removed, right?

With the module removed, the brakes still function but like a pre-ABS car, no anti-lock. But try disconnecting the ABS connector and see if the speedo works, which it should.

Yes, you can remove the electronics portion without disconnecting any lines. The car will still run, but you won't have ABS (hopefully this is obvious) and your speedometer will likely also be out

Speedometer would only work on the early 02 models that didn't use the wheel speed sensor I believe.

This is correct because my speedo worked fine even when my ABS module died and I removed it for a few weeks while waiting for a replacement to be delivered. Ours is an 02.

I contacted k0mpressed before anyone else, unfortunately he said he no longer fixes ABS modules. I'm not sure if that changed since I contacted him, but let us know how it goes.

    ABS Module Repair?

    x2 what RDA990 said

I contacted kompressed about a year ago asking about ABS module repair and he said he no longer does them. So unless something has changed since then, you’re better off going through cheap abs.
