    DSG Tuning

This post is not to rag on any vendors or any tuning style. I’d like to know if anyone has a DSG tune that also changes the behavior of regular D mode (aside from higher clamp force and shift speed)?

Most tuners seem to leave the normal shift points alone in this mode, which has the transmission trying to get to 7th gear at the lowest speed possible. The low speed lugging drives me nuts, leaving S as the only usable auto mode. This in turn makes the car a little much at in town speeds with the downshifting into 2nd gear while braking to a stop light each time. I love it when driving on back roads but it’s a little much going to the store with the family and the slight lurching when braking to a stop.

Does any tuner (IE, 034, GIAC, etc.) change this behavior at all? Maybe with upshift points closer to 2500rpm rather than 1600rpm? Are there any that allow D and S mode to hold a gear on mid accel rather than upshift at a set speed each time more like the torque converter auto in the SQ5?

Supposedly EPL was either working on doing this or its already done.

I heard that a long time ago, I believe back in December of last year. I’m currently on EPL’s stage 2 single pulley with DSG tune and haven’t seen an update since those comments came out on their thread. I love the ECU tune but hoping there’s a tuner out there that has a DSG tune set more to match my use case.

I have the same setup as you. EPL’s Stage 2 single pulley with DSG tune.
It would be nice to put my car into D mode more often I agree.
Perhaps send Chris@EPL a private message?

I thought APR's TCU tune improved shift points in "D" to do exactly what the OP was asking about? Perhaps it only works with APR's own ECU tune?

I do not. I was merely asking/commenting about the APR TCU tune.

From APR's website.... "Under low-torque, low-rpm part-throttle situations, both drive mode and sport mode behave similar to stock. The shift points are raised to prevent the transmission from over aggressively seeking seventh gear prematurely in drive mode and to provide a more sporty feeling in sport mode. The first to second gear short shift has been addressed and while rolling to a stop, the transmission will no longer prematurely downshift to first gear, resulting in a clunky transition."

I’d love to get some feedback from actual users too, I wonder how accurate their description is in real life driving.

Same here. Anyone with an APR DSG tune to confirm whether or not it changes the shifting in D mode and makes it hold gears a bit longer and not shift into 7th at an insanely low speed?

Anyone here have an IE or 034 tune to pitch in?

You have the updated DSG TCU Tune on your server that holds the gears a little longer. D has the least amount of changes, but still has the raised shift points and the rest. S holds the gears much longer, so with D and S you get the best pf both. D for more daily driving or in traffic or trying to save gas or S for more spirited driving.

I do and thanks, Chris! I’m still looking for an improvement (personal opinion on “improvement”, maybe?) with the D mode. The upshifting into 7th gear at speeds well below where they should be drives me nuts, even if it’s by design. Lugging an engine at 1300 rpm on a highway on-ramp and then needing to accelerate to match highway speeds is a chore which is so odd considering the amount of torque these engines put out.

S mode is great for sporty driving, I just wish D could meet it halfway on shifting. I like not having the rev matched downshifting on a family cruise, so D is more necessary than I’d like especially with how quickly it upshifts into max gear. There’s got to be a huge market for people who’d like D mode to be pepped up a bit.

    Chris,
Hi and thanks for your input. Is it possible that I have the updated file also and maybe haven’t updated it?

Why is that? Curious about what they do that makes them better. You've run some really high HP, so your insight is appreciated.

I think EPL has had that tune for a while, because I'm pretty sure I have it and I've had the tune for just over a year. I rarely ever drive in D anyway, but I did notice an improvement the one or two times I've driven in D. From the factory you get a lot of bogging in D, but the EPL tune cleans it up so it doesn't drive anywhere near as aggressive as S/M, but it isn't bashful like how it is driving in D on factory tune.

Their website description is promising. I don’t know how their process works, whether they have a flash at home solution or if they have a installer network in the US. I’m going to go look into it now. Thanks!

i think stage 1/2/2+ is at home, stage 3/4 is at their installer, which is bullshit bc 3/4 is when you get antilag launches & cool stuff like that. but their rep told me it's to prevent people from jacking their files
