    APR X-Pipe on RS7 thoughts....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looking to get some opinions on the X-pipe installed on an RS7. I have DP's on there now and a Stage 2 tune... really wanting some thoughts on how it sounds personally and would you recommend it.

    Thanks

I have it on my RS7 with a stage 2 tune, APR downpipes and APR exhaust with mid muffler. I strongly recommend the X-pipe for this setup, it made the overall sound way less boomy, completely quietened down the resonance I was getting at very low RPMs/speeds (aka pulling to a stop or parking). It also gives the car a really cool V8 howl on partial throttle in mid-range revs (3-4K rpm), not entire sure how to describe it other than a Ferrari type V8 sound, it’s pretty sweet. Overall the system is in my option much improved by the x-pipe, I couldn’t go back to running without it, made a much bigger difference than I expected.

No APR X pipe, but for what it is worth....catless DP + non res Milltek with H replaced by X. Guess most know how a milltek sounds right....well now simply by replacing it with an X it is leaning much more throughwards an Akra but even less resonate and less boomy as Kebabman explains. Much more refined and indeed bit more 'blown' ferrari v8 :). Before i liked the sound a lot, with the catless i was almost affraid to drive around, now i love it. Low and mid range is nice on the ears, tone and volume...but it still give hell when you floor it. For a daily, i highly recommand an X pipe (no mather what exhaust you running).

Not sure I understand what Boomy and "blown Ferrari" are..... can you elaborate a little.

I suck at explaining :p but with the boomy i was refurring to the (annoying) vibrating resonation indoor noise....and with the blown i kinda meant you, stock exhaust has this noose aswell a bit (kinda like the turbos you hear blowing air...) compaired to just a madness of wild rasy trackor ticking the milltek used to make. Maybe i'm getting old but liking the more refined tone of what an X pipe does. Still considering removing my milltek silencers upfront but bit affraid that will create drome back in the cabine especially since they are located just under the front seats.
*sometimes i hear wild muffled explosions going on in the X with my tune next to the outside pop and bangs.

One could compare the sound of the low frequency drone from a pair of Flowmaster mufflers compared to a Maserati, Jaguar, Aston Martin or Ferrari sound.

The B8 S4 Milltek non resonated cat back has a the low frequency drone (booming) sound between 1600rpm and 2200rpm, when lugging up a freeway hill.

Yeah I find the 3-4K RPM is not to my liking with just DPs on the car... there is a nasty rasp that comes alive and it has no beauty to it at all... hoping this Xpipe will refine it to a better tone.

Like someone else on the thread said with the APR downpipes and full exhaust I was actually starting to become a bit nervous about using more than even a little bit of throttle anywhere even remotely close to built up areas, it was just unpleasantly loud IMO, not in a sounds mean way in a booming vibration that shake the whole cabin way. My friend said it sounded like some kind of brass instrument (think trombone) on full throttle in the mid-rev range, and once he did I couldn’t un-hear it. The x-pipe completely transformed this portion of the rev range under load from embarrassing to a nice plain howl. I actually think I like that Ferrari V8-like sound it has now more than the sound under full throttle - and as an added bonus I can be a lot more liberal with the loud pedal without annoying my neighbors, getting eye rolled by the wife, or just plain cringing to myself at my fancy executive car sounding like a brass instrument. So yeah as you can probably tell I’m pretty happy with the X-Pipe.

I can try and take some recordings if that would be useful, but in my experience it’s practically impossible to capture what the sound is truly like on a video (especially a cellphone video). Anyway, for me I wouldn’t run this system without the X-pipe now, I’d rather go back to stock, that’s how much better it made the system sound and imo a no brainer for 200bucks.

Where is everyone getting their X pipe? I have the sports exhaust and it just isn't loud enough.

    Hi
I have the APR DPs, APR Non Res Catback Exhaust and now the APR X Pipe fitted to my APR Stage 2 RS6 Performance.

The X Pipe addition is well worth it and the noise is great.
There’s no severe noise or boom in the cabin when driving in comfort either..

I know milltek isn't great quality (i had my fair amount of issues with it, hoping apr installed better flaps :p ). Sadely 3-4 years ago we didn't had much options.

Curious on peoples thoughts on replacing the RS factory center muffler with an X-pipe for a budget sound improvement?

There are many discussions on the S platform, and people have seen very nice sound gains from this "cheap" mod. Not sure if the RS was any different. (bad sound? drone? marginal improvement?, etc)

Anyone know if I can swap the Milltek H pipe with APR’s X pipe? Both are 2.75” diameter.

It wont work directly since it looks the apr are more tapered/V setup versus milltek beeing parallel setup...so the pipes wont line up.

Dang, ok. So custom X pipe is the best way to go?

Unless something changed between the time i was looking for an X pipe and now. Back then i could only find 2.5" and 3" X pipes.
I went for an 3" but had to customize it aswell to get it fit (milltek pipes layed closer to each other and had to make 3"->2.75" adaptors etc...
Took some work and time, but compaired to my original H milltek, the sound (and feel) is much better imho :).
Any decent exhaust shop could make one for you.

Sorry to revive an old thread.

Anyone put an APR X pipe on a stock RS7 exhaust? I have RedStar downpipes which connects directly to the factory exhaust. The APR X pipe looks like it reduces from 3 to the stock 2.75”. How much trouble would it be to “crunch” down the 3” end to mate to the factory setup?

I’ve also looked at the ECS tuning X pipe resonator delete. But heck it’s listed at 60mm which seems even smaller than the S6/7 exhaust (thought that was 2.5”, 60mm is like 2.36”)

Not sure if either of those would work

The Apr is initially the most promising. I like the sound of the catless DPs but it could be a little louder. Kinda scared to do to much and end up with drone and hating it. Want that Dr Jeckel/Mr Hyde setup. Nice and quiet/comfortable on the highway cruising. Then Roaring when I’m in it
