So 11 a6 avant 3.0tfsi - 115k miles. My DS flex pipe has to be replaced and is causing noise and I think may also be cause of shudder I feel when coasting. Local exhaust specialist who has $90 per hr rate quoted me $225 to cut out the flex pipe and replace it with non - OEM SS flex -pipe section but only 1 year warranty. I imagine that Stainless STeel quality/grade is lower plus maybe strain on welds creates issues.
I've seen some replacement SS parts ebay etc some that use clamps vs. some that would need to be welded. In theory the clamp ones can be tightened up over time and may allow more movement and maybe less strain overall exhaust system. Also thinking ahead that I may need the same on PS sooner rather than later.
So has anyone used one or the other technique - if so tell me which and how long the repair has held up?
I'm in Maine so salt corrosion is inevitable but I want to know if weld failed or clamps would not hold. I could likely do clamps myself which would save $ but don't want to have to do this often as the tradeoff.
Thanks
