pin extraction tool for ignition coil connectors

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
As these cars become older and with the heat on top of the engines i an finding these connectors are starting to break and crumble. ECS sells replacement connectors bu getting the pins out can be a challenge. I also dont want to cut into the wiring harness and crimp.

In my research i cam across this from another site.

    https://www.mouser.ca/ProductDetail/...61kfbFCVPh1A==

not eve sure its for our particular cars. its just all i could find and it is fairly pricey.

I was thinking of making something with some bits lying around but thought i would ask in case anyone else has been through this.

Definitely get one like this with multiple tools for different size connectors! While it may seem like a lot of money, it’s worth it for something like this if you do a lot of electrical work on these cars

that looks like it might do the trick . A little more than i need .. over 100 bucks CAD plus shipping to push a pin out seems like a lot but for what it does likely worth it. I wonder if anyone found some kind of standalone knock off tool.

i dont do a lot of cars .. i just want to fix a couple of connectors on mine.. still might spring for it though ... i said this would be my last German car about 4 german cars ago so i will likely use it multiple times. Has anyone used this on our B8(.5) and can confirm one of the tools will work on our ignition coil harness ?

thanks for the info , that's a good start.

I have a single tool that I bought off of amazon for like $15. While it gets the job done, I had to modify the prong ends a bit with a deemed and while I can get it to work on some connectors, some are too big or small for it and I end up using small electronics flathead screwdrivers

yeah and sometimes you need 4 hands .. one small flat head on either side of the connector, one hand to hold the connector and one to pull the wire ..

that one looks like it might work .. but yeah i see what you mean .. you kind of need the bend part way down inwards. gives me an idea to make a tool though.

Ebay has some sets for 20 or so. No idea of quality, but for hobby use they will probably be gtg.

The Schwaben kit from ECS is garbage. Every extraction tool had the tips fall out.

Anyone have a link to an ebay kit they know works? I'd throw 20 bucks or so at the project as it will.likely be a one time use thing.

I unwound a thinner paper clip and it looks like it should accomplish the task all the same.

The third pic in this eBay listing gives a good view of the tabs trying to be pushed back.

Of course, ShopDAP video on the subject, including links to the tools used.

I litterally just broke up the connector around the pins and then took all the debris away and put the pins in the new connector. lol
