    Misano Red S3

New to this site and happy to have found it. Thus far its been a great resource to help me trouble shoot and be a source of inspiration for new mods!

Long-time euro owner, but this is only my second Audi. Still have my 2017 VW SportWagen with 4motion which i love but i did have to let go of my minty 2004 VW .:R32 in order to make room for the new ride. I've been coveting an Audi Sport car for awhile and finally pulled the trigger on this 2016 Misano Red S3 last month. Planning to use this thread as a source to document little changes and an excuse to share some pics for others who may enjoy! I've already been actively making it my own and plan to share that info in this thread.

Bought the car bone stock, but it did contain specs that i really wanted...

    Options:
    • Misano Red
    • 19" wheels with Mag ride
    • Bang and Olufsen Stereo
    • Super sport seats
    • Low kilometers
    • Warranty

    Day I signed the papers:

Thankfully i was able to rope wifey in to go collect the new ride:

Parking it at home for the first time felt great. Especially the way Misano red pops in the garage under my lighting.

Beauty! You should shine those exhaust tips when you get a chance on a nice day. I did mine and it makes a big difference aesthetically.

Oh man..... That was the biggest sign of neglect on the car. I had the dealer give them a shot prior to actual delivery. To be fair that pic was actually when i first signed. I have also given them several hours, but unfortunately they are beyond repair. The chrome is all pitted. I'm looking to change them with black tips.

This pic shows them a little dusty but the true horrendous condition. What are others doing when damaged. I spoke to the dealer and unfortunately chrome is the only option, although i had seen some pics in their catalogues for black tips. Thinking of getting them painted black.

Thanks! Agreed, it was pretty well cared for. The usual annoyances though when you buy a used vehicle.

Mods have started already and I'll try and catch this thread up to where i'm at today. First "mods" were actually acquired prior to taking delivery when I was able to find some used WeatherTech floor liners for winter use. Very pleased with that find as those aren't cheap when new.

Next purchase was another lack-luster acquisition but i have to say i love the look of them with the logo.

Another mod that has become a common staple to all my vehicles was a tow hook plate mount. Unfortunately where i live they require a front plate and although i have in the passed opted to sometimes not have one mounted, i went with a US MillWorks mount for the S3. Very happy with the fitment. Only downfall which i was already aware of is that it will trigger a front sensor when parking.

Next on the list was adding some spacers. Took the ECS recommendation with their flush kit to add 10mm in the front and 17.5mm in the rear.

    Left shows with spacers installed:

Took the opportunity with the wheels off to do an in depth cleaning:

You may want to consider having those tips powder coated or ceramic coated. I had the tips on my Carrera 4S powder coated and stye came out great and remained looking great until I sold the car recently. Nice looking S3 BTW. I have one too but mine is Monsoon Gray and I love it.

Thanks for the suggestion. Getting them powder coated is certainly the route I'm currently leaning towards. I've heard good things and always appreciate hearing the recommendation from others. I've found a local source i just need to get my arse in gear and remove the tips to bring them over.

I use ImageShack. I too was using Photobucket until they shit the bed. I transitioned to Imageshack for another site and have been happy with the service. I do pay, but its extremely minimal.

Getting the window's tinted was the following item on my to do list. But this unfortunately reinforced me desire to black out all the brushed aluminum.

    Post tint: 35% ceramic

Swapped the rear emblems to a black version to tie in the theme i'm adding to the car. I often end up deleting all rear badging but i felt the S3 logo was a good one to keep.

Where did you get the emblems? I found a kit on ebay for like 100 bucks for the S3 badge, the rear rings and the front grill rings.

I am luck enough to have the Black Optics package and omg once you get the exhaust tips black and the badges black it pulls the whole look together.

I need to post some pics of mine so you can see!

Thanks! The S3 badge is OEM, the rings are aftermarket from an unknown company. A friend actually gave it to me.

Jealous of your Black Optic package for sure. I'm slowly transforming my car to replicate that.

They were honestly a deal breaker in my search for this car. Yes i believe with the optional seats you get leather door cards with white stitch, the "knee pad" center console area and armrest.

Speaking of which i recently treated them to give them a little protection.

My deal breaker was black optics. I originally was looking for the super sport seats as well... but I found so few cars and then came upon one that was everything but the super sports seats but it also came with a 150k mile warranty on the engine and trans... so I jumped... it also only has 22k miles...

I figure adding the concsole is easy... I mean taking it apart sux, but the part is only $240 bucks new. I am sure I can find the door handles and I dont really mind the storage compartment/arm rest top being what it is...

Sounds as though we had similar search parameters. I had to "settle" without Black Optics, although i really wanted it :) Priced out the window trim alone and they are $1,300 on ECS tuning. That was certainly a well priced package. I'm getting close to completing my clone of the package. Finalizing a deal on the wheels soon as well.

Im more worried about getting the trim on and off. And at that point, id just wrap it which was a backup. But, the black optics for 2016 was mixed in with the performance package I believe. I honestly dont remember. but it wasnt just looks for 2016 iirc.

True. Yea i just had them wrapped. I also can't find the definitive answer, packages also varied between Canada and the US.

Sadly this project likely took longer than it should have and i truly came close to throwing in the towel a couple of times. Way more involving than any grille swap i had tackled with my old volkswagens. The results though made it all worth while.

This is escalating quickly! Lol. That grill adds great contrast to the red. As for the mats, simple as they may be, they are a great place to put your feet IMO. I've always loved the Monster Mats from VW/Audi.

Agreed on all counts. I always use the Monster Mats as my summer mats and Weathertech Floor liners in winter as i get to deal with snow every year. Stay tuned for many more updates!

Beautiful build man! I think you're right about the super sport seats having leather knee pads as mines the same. I have a few questions and compliments.
    1. I want your garage! so cool.
    2. how was wrapping your trim? I want to do that asap but am unsure of what to use and difficulty.
    3. Where did you get the black side vents? I am going to do the same rs3 grill and black optics everything. That and the badges and are the only items I haven't sourced yet.
    4. Did the wheel spacers change cornering or anything? wheel rub?
    5. You have to pull the whole bumper to do the grill? how long did it take and would you do it again or hire it out?
    6. Again, beautiful car. Beautiful garage!

    Thanks Man, appreciate it.
    1. Very kind of you.
    2. I sourced out the wrapping i have had done thus far.
    3. Black side vents were painted black.
    4. Wheel spacers are always one of the first things i do on any car. I can honestly say i can't tell a difference driving, but the look can't be compared. No rubbing.
    5. Yes the grille change was a huge PITA. Took me nearly 5 hours and required removing both front wheels and full bumper. I may source it out if i have to do it again.
    6. Thanks!

No. Sadly i struggled on that point for a couple weeks.... They had an option with black rings but after looking at a ton of pics online i find its a negative change getting ride of the front chrome rings. My goal is to remove all other chrome beyond that piece.

Installed some Maxton Design gloss black side skirts that really tie in the sides to the front and back. I hadn't initially planned to do this mod at this point but i stumbled on these used, near perfect and only a few blocks from my house. Couldn't pass up the price either.

Thanks man. The flooring is RaceDeck FreeFlow. This is the second garage that i've chosen to use this type of flooring. I love the way it transforms the space. The design allows it to wick water through the tiles and down the pitch of the pad and out the door.

    6. Thanks!
Cool thanks for the info. I have so many mods I'm going to do I have to research everything. I'll def source out the grille labor. Lol

No problem. Yea the hunt for mods is addictive. It has certainly been a fun first few months attacking this. Many more updates to come!

Haven't really needed or wanted to mess with the interior as it was the exact spec i wanted, however..... I did come across these rings that are a nod to the RS3 interior vent rings. Cheap Ebay purchase but i have to say, i love the look. Compliment the ring around the push start and shifter.
