    B7 2.0t Exhaust

So i’m looking at doing some exhaust modifications finally, and what i’m looking at is either resonator delete, or a straight pipe from cat back, or a full bolt on stainless steal cheapish setup on eBay. Don’t clown me about the eBay exhaust we have it on the tt and sounds great and no welds to worry about rusting. I’m quoted 140 for res delete, 250 for cat back straight pipe and about 380 for a bolt on setup. If you guys have any videos of your cars exhaust i’d love to hear it i’m not trying to spend a arm and a leg right now, just looking for a much better sound a little performance boost. Another thing I heard is at low rpm you lose a lot of boost when deleting res or straight pipe rather than the stock setup, is this true? Also metric weld might be a little wonky and scared of rust in the Minnesota winters

For catback I was thinking 2 1/4” so it’s not crazy loud. And also want something with minimal drone. Budget is about $400 as of now and just looking for more purr, nothing that will blow your eardrums but definitely a lot louder than stock

I would not recommend the resonator delete, I seriously regret it.

I agree with not removing the resonator, I did this for a few months then put the stock back on because on the highway I'd get an annoying drone sound around 3k rpm. It was tiring, music was no longer enjoyable and overall not a good experience.

I'm running a full non res BBE with 2.5" DP and test pipe. Very throaty, but def some drone at certain rpms. Been considering getting a resonated mid section, and trying that. Still little pricey, but cheaper than the rest. Only system that comes with a dp for auto tip trans. $885/ shipped.

If you want more burble muffler delete will do the trick. Keep stock resonators to eliminate most drone. You remove those with a muffler delete and you get the snap crackle pop sound. Sounds meh when you blip the throttle but when driving/under load our cars sound like civics

Is sounding like a civic a pro now?

Nope. And never will be. I’d rather sound like a Prius. I was simply responding to OP’s post with a limited budget. Honestly I would go to an exhaust shop and have them build a custom 2.5” piping exhaust with magnaflow resonators/mufflers and call it a day. It’s chepaer than buying an off the shelf piece and most shops will do it for about your price range give or take a few $$

    Here’s my custom setup

Same price. I got it straight from them, cuz was a custom setup with non res center. They price matched another website, cuz was cheaper.

You don’t “lose boost” when you do anything with your exhaust. I don’t know who told you that but stop listening to them.

If anything, doing exhaust work makes your turbo more efficient and it will take less work to do the same job.

More air out means more air in.

If you want your car to perform better, get a high flow cat and bigger downpipe. That’s where the biggest restrictions are, right behind the turbo.

If all you care about is sound, get the eBay kit. Resonators and mufflers are what make an exhaust sound good. Removing them is what makes an exhaust sound like shit.

Totally agree. When people delete everything, and think it sounds good, cuz its loud. I just laugh, sorry. Cuz I like a throaty sound, not crackly.

I guess you could “lose boost” with a really efficient exhaust now that I think about it. It would require less boost to achieve the same power if you went from a really restrictive exhaust to a nice free flowing one due to the increased air flow. You might loose .5-1 psi on your gauge but make the same or better power. Power made from boost is what is important. Not the actual peak number.

Looking at N75 duty cycle would show if the turbo was working less hard to make the same boost. Think of it like how your boost gauge usually reads lower in winter. You aren’t “losing boost”. There’s just more oxygen molecules in the air so it takes less PSI to make the same power. Getting more air flow from your exhaust basically does something similar. You’re able to pass more air volume out of the exhaust. More air out means you can get more in.

So I guess what his friend said could be technically true, but it doesn’t mean what he thinks it means. 🤔

I'm pretty frugal (buying an Audi makes that statement kinda ironic but oh well) so I decided to go into my high school's scrap metal pile, find some good quality piping, and fabricated my own exhaust. I am only running a muffler delete now but I get compliments at every show/meet I go to about my exhaust tone. To be completely honest, it is not loud enough for my liking, but for where I live I don't mind it. Loud enough to turn heads but not loud enough to piss non-car people off lol. This being said, my school has welders, pipe benders, cutters, etc, so the only thing I spent money on were the 3.5 inch eBay exhaust tips. I can message you videos if you'd like?
