Someone explain AMAX to me please

I've been seeing people talk about it, and I think I have a vague Idea, but I'd like to hear from someone who explicitly knows what it is, and how to do it on a 3.0T ZF car.

AMAX or acceleration maximum is a function of "launching" the car.

Foot on brake, traction control off, foot on gas till revs stabilize and release brake. In this situation the vehicle will not reduce torque output during shifts, causing more abrupt shifting and the fastest possible acceleration.

    Thank you.

So it doesn't have to be in sport mode? This can be done in manual or sport?

Does the car have to be in Dynamic?

    Welcome.

In any mode it can be activated as long as the steps mentioned above are followed.

You have to push and hold the traction control button until it says "Braking guard off!", about 15s, just pressing the button to disable ESC isn't enough.

I also just have to press it. Also, for A model cars, such as my A6 there is no AMAX from the factory. I had it added via the TCU tune. Also Also, holding the traction control button does nothing in my car, regardless of the amount of time, just acts like a single press. I think that is S-model specific.

I've seen this mentioned before too. I don't know why some people seem to have to hold the button. Even in my S6 it is just a single press...holding does nothing.
There is about a 5 second delay between the display saying ESC: Sport & Braking Guard: off but you do not have to hold it at all.

i had thought it was the fore mentioned steps but the car needed to be in Dynamic to take full credit.

My C6 A6 was press and hold. C7 A6, holding doesn't seem to do anything.

It does not. It could be in comfort and still engage AMAX.

So I just tried it and I did what P3U said and it worked like a charm.

    Just for reference I have a 2013 A6 3.0T, prestige.

Also, holding down the traction control button did disable breaking guard after about 5 seconds.

Amax is definitely interesting. According to my P3 gauge, it knocked off a half second on my 0-60 time, in 95 degree humid weather. I did 0-60 in 5.43, whereas without AMAX I did 5.85 in 75 degree weather.

Correct, however it should be only 5 seconds on certain years and others do not need the long hold. It should be in sport mode to fully engage. Also, if you hold it for too long it will not engage and drop power.
