Carbon fiber spoiler. Is it ok to buy cheap?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I would just buy the ED spoiler if they ever had it in stock, but I see a bunch on ebay and even Walmart is selling them!

    https://www.walmart.com/ip/Real-Carb...10080301008005

Has anyone bought an ebay carbon fiber spoiler or an equivalent aftermarket one? If you've bought one and had good/bad luck with it please share. Any benefits to spending more elsewhere?

Honestly you'll probably be fine, but I feel like I should still share my experience which was not great. I bought one off of Amazon, it shipped straight from china and arrived cracked.

    Thread here:
    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...2#post13390392

I ended up getting a refund after going back and forth with the seller for like a week, and ultimately just bought one off ECS.

I bought the ED spoiler and ended up sending it back...it was garbage. Bought an ECS and it's great for the money.

Has anyone tried this RW Carbon CF spoiler?

    https://www.rwcarbon.com/audi-a3-s3-...k-spoiler.html

Looks like a nice piece; more expensive than ebay, but less than ECS.

I bought a cheaper one from a local guy in Jersey. Fit and finish was great but it started to get random bubbles in between the layers on the first one within a few months. He replaced it and the second one has been near perfect for almost 3 years now.

Do you have photos of it? I've been contemplating purchasing the OEM one but if the China-made ones are close in fitment and quality, might just go that route instead. I have a gut feeling that most of these vendors all source their spoilers from the same Chinese manufacturer and price them differently.

Before I provide the photos. Here's the link to the seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Carbon-Fibe...749.l2649#rwid

It's actually shipped from Rowland Heights, CA.

    I will provide photos soon.

Pictures from both sides. I didn't have any issues with the fitment; It's pretty centered. I also included two pictures of the carbon fiber weaving; no detectable defects. I paid around $150ish. Can't go wrong with that price compared to the OEM price.

Thank you peter(I liked and subscribed) and everyone else. Lorne thank you for the pics. It looks great! I'm going to order one. I see that both of yours is a tiny bit short leading me to believe these really are all made by the same company. Over $1000 for an oem lip spoiler just doesn't seem justifiable when these look so good!

Alright guys I ordered one off ebay. Fingers crossed it looks and fits well. I'm definitely going to order some adhesive promoter but what tape is best to use? I see 3m makes different strengths and I want one that will keep it in place permanently but be able to take it off if I ever need to.

I jumped on the bandwagon from Walmart... for 120 bucks its hard to pass up... plus I will be having it wrapped or plastic dipped gloss black to match the black optics package! So the finish is less important than the fit for me!

eBay, just reapplied with .5 inch 3m tape....2 full length strips close to the edges as you can get without it showing...seems to be really solid this time

Bought gloss black badges off eBay, first set was terrible fit and finish for front rings, but second ones I found fit great up front...rear ring swap took an hour or so to get the old glue off...still w both sets I bought it was cheaper than oem options by a lot.

Thanks I appreciate it ! Yeah that’s the same guy lol - He did send adhesive, but I ended up using a stronger one that I bought online. So I can’t verify if the one he sends is good or not

All of my badges and the exhaust tips were done using auto flex. Most of the eBay badges are different sizes and smaller and I didn’t feel like dealing with that

Cool thanks I'll pick some up. I did find a link on the forum for oem for only $130ish for both which is way less than I've seen elsewhere. I think I'll try the autoflex first and if I screw that up i'll buy those. lol how do you cover the badges so well and not get it on the car?

Just received my spoiler from RW Carbon in Anaheim. Just did a quick test fit over my stock spoiler to check fitment and it seems pretty good. Not much of a gap on each side, the spoiler curves up and outward and it's not carbon fiber overlaid on top of polyurethane like the others. It'll have a hollow sound if you tap on it when installed. I've found that some of the cheaper ones look a bit flat instead of curved upwards.

Here are some photos to help you folks decide on whether or not you guys want to spend the extra for this one.

I think spending a bit more is warranted. That looks really good and still much cheaper than the Audi version.

Just got it installed today by RW Carbon. They knocked it out in about 30 minutes.

Here are some photos to help you guys decide whether to spend that premium. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the quality.

So I just got my new spoiler! It came in nicely wrapped and I am thrilled! It's better than expected. It is real carbon fiber. Weighs nothing. It looks flawless, and although I didn't install it yet, it looks like it will fit perfectly. I set it on top of my oem spoiler and the width is spot on. No gaps at all. Not warped or anything weird. I ordered the better adhesive and adhesive promotor so once that comes in I'll install it and post my final review. Very pleased at this point though. I wish I knew what the adhesive was the guy sent me. It looks like the one I ordered tbh. Red 3m. Now I just need to figure out how to post pictures on the forum. Lol

if you put a knock off next to the oem spoiler its amazing the difference in quality.

I had a knockoff on my s3 and loved it until i saw it next to the oem spoiler. my friend installed the same spoiler and his started to fade within 2 years

Update. Purchased a spoiler from ebay for $219 AUD express shipping (Australia)
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/323281506607

    Quality:
5/10 - There are imperfections in the Carbon and Clear gloss coating

    Fitment:
6/10 - The spoiler fits okay however is not completely flush. The adhesive tape that was provided doesn't hold well on the sides and will probably need to be replaced in a year.

Personally not very happy with the spoiler. Looks fine from a distance, but as soon as you get up close you start notice the imperfections and bad fitment. I have a feeling the clear coating will fail pretty quickly especially in the hot Australian summer.
Not sure why I ever through of putting aftermarket Chinese crap on a luxury vehicle.
If you're not OCD like me the spoiler will probably be okay for you. I'm going to just fork out for the OEM from Audi.

Forgot to shout out to zcspec! I watched the video again when installing mine.

Brian@unitronic, I'm sure it is better, but for $150 I'll replace it every 2 years if I have to. Haha I'm sure it is worth it if you have $1100 for a cosmetic part. I would just rather put that money toward a catback or upgraded intercooler. As long as I don't park next to someone with oem I'll be happy with it. And if it really did/does look bad I would just take it off. Not worried about losing $150.

st3v I'm sorry you didn't receive a product you're happy with. It looks great but I do see the imperfections in the zoom shot. I really do think you're the only one that will notice and luckily it's removable. Worst case scenario, remove it and put the factory spoiler back on.
