    B9 A4 Brake Job Cost

I think i might need the rear Rotors/Pads replaced. I bought the car at 40k Miles and now it has 49k miles and due for a 50k Service at the Dealer.
Its a CPO and has 8mm on pads and 13mm on Rotors left at 40k miles so I have put 9k on it so definitely be needing fresh pads and rotors in near future.
seeing slight resistance in braking to stop. Front had 10mm on pads and 30mm on rotors at 40k miles as per the specs provided by dealer from CPO.

    1) How much a Dealer can charge for both pads and rotors in USA.
    2) If I go Independent how much it will cost. ( Can they even do the rear due to electronic parking break)
    3) What will be the parts cost and which one to get. I like the one with No dust and good breaking power. ( e.g EBC, Akebono ..)

When I did the search I saw prices ranging between $1000-$1300 at the Dealership.
I am sure they will ask me at maintenance to get the brake change, so i want to be prepare when they ask.

    Thanks.

I just had my brakes replaced. I sourced my parts separately all OEM and it was 820. 825 was my labor cost. The parts below I did not know about at the time was 83.06. I had a 20% off coupon for brakes, so my total bill for the below parts and labor was 730.
Also Audi used stretch bolts for my guess is the calipers.

    qty: 4 - N-911-476-01
    qty: 2 - N-106-483-01
qty: 2 - 8W0-698-231 <- this is listed as a plate not 100% sure what it is

So you paid $820 for all 4 Brakes ( pads +Rotors) parts OEM from Audi.
And Audi Dealer charge you $730 to install the brakes with a 20% off coupon.

Where one can get a 20% off Coupon ?

    Thanks.

check the dealer website under the finance and specials section (service specials). Wording might change from website to website but you can find coupons on their page.

I use Audi Orland Park or Westmont for my services.

In general, $1728 (excluding coupon) sounds outrageous to me for pads & rotors. If you're going OE and having the dealership do the install I guess that's expected.

I do all my brake jobs myself. It's one of the easiest diy jobs you can do on a car. And you'll save a ton. If you get top of the line oem rotors and pads, I'm guessing maybe a total of $400-500.
If you aren't mechanically inclined at all, or just don't want to do it, I'd take it to an independent shop. Again, any shop should be able to do a brake job and you'll save some money. jmo

I check with one of indi and he specialize in VW/Audi cars. He quoted me $150 for Labor for Rear Rotors and pads including the sensor. $440 if he provides the parts. I think I will buy my own parts like EBC or Akebono or Zimmerman shouldn't cost me more then $250-$300. I like something with less dust quiet and quick bite vented or slotted. 330mm x 22mm.

He check my brakes and told me I still have at least 7mm left on the Rear and more on front. So I can wait for now till I see the warning comes in.
I am going for my 50k Audi care service in two weeks so will be interesting to see what dealer will say about how much left on pads and rotors.

If youre at 8mm for pads you are fine. If youre feeling some issues have the brake system checked out But when you are getting close to 3mm is when you should change them.

And there is no way your rotors are at 13mm. I dont think thats physically possible, look at the outside face of a rotor and youll see what I mean. I think 28mm is the min.

These are the FRONT caliper bolts. According to the FSM, they are supposed to be replaced.
I assume you already bought the rear caliper bracket bolts which (IMO) are more critical to replace.

    qty: 2 - N-106-483-01
These are the small phillips-head screws that hold the brake rotor to the hub.

    qty: 2 - 8W0-698-231
These are the front brake pad retainers & contact shims/clips (between the alloy caliper and the steel pad backing plate). 1 retainer & 4 shims/clips per side. I can't see why these would need to be replaced, but maybe they were worn.

I went for the 50k Service last week.
    They change the Oil.
They told me Brakes are still good.
    Front pads = 7mm
    Rear pads = 8mm

They told me front will cost 800-900 and rear will cost 700-800 once they need to be replaced.

Dealer prices, A really good indy, even an expensive one, may halve that, and if you do it, save much more. Timing chain, stay away, brakes, piece of cake.

And whatever you to learn to check the pads yourself. The money pushes any tech to push the job prematurely, and you can guestimate the pad thickness thru the spaces in the alloys, wheels on.

I found a good indy who works on VW/Audi and can do the same work in less then half the price and I can bring my own parts. I am looking at Labor ~$300 for all 4 pads/rotors.
I am going to wait till the pads reaches 3mm or warning light comes.
