2015 Q5 Front Bumper Removal issue, RS Grill Install With Parking Senors?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

I recently picked up a 15' Q5 TDI and looking to do some improvements.

    Currently.
    IMG_0644.jpg

I purchased the RS style grill to swap in and had difficulty removing the bumper.
I was following the commonly pointed to SQ5 guide but it still would not come off.
It seemed to still be bolted or attached near the headlights even after removing to 10mm nut.
Has anyone had this problem? I pulled on it repeatedly and it felt like it was going to break before loosening.

Also, I'm wondering if anyone has successfully relocated the two parking senors that are found in the grill from the factory into the RS grill?

    What I'm putting in.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you, but I've referenced both of these already with no luck.

Hmm. Those are the same diy's I used and found it very helpful. Are you sure you got all the bolts removed? Once they are all out it is very easy to remove. Step 5 and step 7 you may want to look at again. Peel the underside protection back and there are more screws to remove. The wheel well bolts too, 2 on each side? Just make sure you got everything again and it should come right off. Didn't take me long.

As for the parking sensors, those holes in the grill are for the relocation. Hopefully they use the same housing type as OEM and should just snap into place. Mine did, but I think my rs grill is from a different supplier.

Keep checking on where you feel the bumper is being held up and you will find the issue. Should not feel like you are breaking it to remove it.

Hey, yeah I'm positive that all screws and bolts are off. The whole underside was pulling off freely. I took 3 screws out per wheel well and the 10mm nut completely off. It was not even starting to separate under the headlight. I just wanted to make sure the headlight didn't need removed also for some odd reason.

As for the senors, I guess those solid black areas in the honeycomb just need drilled out for them?

    Thank you

The headlights need the bumper off to be removed so no they can be left alone. I attached what the factory says needs to be done. There isn't that much to removing it, my guess is maybe you got the wrong bolt somewhere. Usually it's the one tucked up towards the top of the wheel well. It should just pop right off if everything is unbolted.

I guess they may need to be drilled out if they are solid. The grill I bought had them ready to plug in the sensors.

Just a random question, have you unplugged the parking sensors already? They have little to no slack, so unplugging those before you pull the front bumper off is a good idea so you don't damage the harness. I know that the parking sensors on the SQ are integrated in the bumper, not the grill. Where as ours is in the grill.

Don't know if the regular Q5 is different, but at least on the SQ5 you don't need to touch the parking sensors to pull the bumper off. There might be a connection for the home link there, but there is enough slack to do it after it is removed and would not prevent pulling the bumper off like the OP described.

There is a fastener that's been missed somewhere, I've had the bumper off at least 3 times and once everything is unboltes it comes out with very little effort.

Yea the Q5 and SQ5's two parking sensors in the middle are different. On the Q5 they are integrated into the license plate filler/grill area, with the SQ5 they are integrated into the lower bumper/painted area. I'm just wondering if that might be why the bumper feels like it doesn't wanna come off. I have yet to take off my entire bumper, but when I swapped the license plate filler the wiring was super tight for the parking sensors and you had to unplug em from the filler.

Ah I see, makes sense for that job, but for bumper removal the parking sensors shouldn't matter.

Thank you all, problem solved. Turns out I was pulling on the plastic piece that the bumper was sandwiched in between.
Once I got between the layers, it easily pulled off.

Here's some shots of the finished product.
