Jack mode setting

Hi Folks

I have an S6 with air suspension.

When setting jack mode through the MMI, can the car still be driven a short distance afterwards, or do you have to wait until right before the car is lifted?

I'm looking to get new tires from a 3rd party shop, and wanted to set the mode before handing over the keys.

If it can't be driven, do you guys hang around the lift to make sure the mode is disabled before the tech drives out of the bay?

Not to be asinine about it. Just trying to avoid a needless repair, so trying to be Audizine about it. ;)

I believe jack mode is only necessary if you raise one part of the car with a jack, as the compressor will try and self level that wheel with the others.

However, I don’t believe this is necessary if the car is placed on a lift and raised equally. I’ve never set it while I had my tires changed at a tire shop.

I often forget to set mine when changing the wheels, as long as the ignition is off until the car is back on the ground I can’t see how it can affect the car. I do use a quickjack though so all four corners are lifted together.

I was reading these old threads about the air suspension bags overinflating when the car was hoisted - dating back to the early gen Allroads. I guess the Audi engineers finally got around to disabling the leveling system when the engine is off.

Better safe then sorry jack mode means the compressor won’t come on, you should put it and jack
Mode before dropping it if, and it will be just fun driving it around the shop until you pick it up. Most techs should know that working in an Audi means you have to disable the air suspension. But if they don’t just do it for them.

Thanks, 3g. Good to know you can drive short distance with the mode on. I got no excuse then. It maybe a low probability risk, but sounds like it's hilariously awful when it happens.

I think it automatically disengages when you drive.

I also think it turns off when the ignition is off. I was going to test it, by engaging, turning off the car then restarting, but never got around to do it.

I tried it. Once set, the mode remains on when driving and after restarting the engine too.

In my version of MMI, it's listed as Air susp - wheel change.

I guess if we can remember it, probably better to use the feature when getting svc by a non Audi tech. I can just imagine the conversation with a dealer to get warranty coverage for any consequent issue. Not following instructions and going outside the network will be a double sin. ;)
