Not good review of Disc Italia Hyper Ceramics

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had these installed on the front and rear of my 2016 A7 back in May with the stoptech slotted and dimpled rotors and the front brakes squeal a bit at low speed when slowing down from 50 to 10 mph. I have done few thousand miles on them and they havent improved even trying to do a few stops to bed them in. They also create tremendous brake dust on the front compared to the rears after 3-4 days out from a car wash that was not as bad as the OEM pads or the Akebono Euro Ceramic pads I had in the past. I really like the fact that these pads have good stopping power, pedal feel etc over the Akebono but I hate the noise and dusting which should not be the case with hyper ceramic pads. The rotors are perfectly fine and no vibration or glazing etc. I contacted brakeworld today to see if they can warrant the bad brake pads on the front... I doubt they will be as helpful. I know many people preach that these are great replacement pads but my experience is the opposite. They are terrible.... Wondering what are your thoughts and if other pads such as the EBC redstuff etc would be better?

I will vouch for EBC Red. good initial bite, very little dust, performs well after repeated hard stops. (little to no fade in aggressive city driving)

I’ve been running the EBC Redstuff’s for about 2 years now on my S7 - I’m at 50k miles, with about 35k on the EBC’s.

Very happy with them. Absolutely zero squeal (which is why I ditched the OEM’s) and extremely low dust. Stopping power is absolutely fine, even from cold.

I’m not tracking my car (Redstuff’s not recommended for trackdays - only fast road use)

Very little obvious wear on the disks, and probably another 20k of life on the pads (I have them on all corners)

Overall, I highly rate them, and will replace like for like when the time comes.

I have advanced auto wearever gold package in my fronts. Almost 40,000 miles and still better bite than stock. My only complaint is o should have gone ceramic because they are dusty mofos.

Thanks for the feedback on the EBC redstuff guys. I am very hesitant but will get them nonentheless. I was so convinced that the disc italias were the best and would have low dust and noise base on the the comments here but I guess they are no better than the cheaper stuff we can get...

Wearever Gold from Advanced Auto parts. No dust, no noise, great value.

Search on that name on this forum for plenty of corroborating evidence.

Hmmm. These two statements are in direct conflict. I'm running stock on my S6, and cannot live another day with the dust. I was leaning towards the Wearevers, but this is the first time someone has called them dusty. I had Akebonos on my S4, and the dust was virtually zero. I would put them on my S6 in a heartbeat, if they made them for the front.

So it sounds like the great, no dust, decent stopping brake pad debate is down to (all available for the S6 as well):

    Disc Italia Hyper Ceramics
    Wearever Gold
    EBC Red Stuff
    Power Stop Z16 Ceramic

I think I'm leaning towards the Wearevers or the Power Stops at this point, based on other thread in the forum.

Agreed. Seems like his (hers?) may not be the same pads.

I ran the Wearevers on both of my last 2 Audis (probably 100K miles or more in total) and in my experience they're at least 95% less dusty than the OEM S6/S4 pads.

I've had good success in the past with Centric Posi-quiet ceramic pads, as well as Hawk ceramic pads.

I did not have good success w.r.t. dusting with EBC Redstuff when I threw them on ~7 years ago on my B7 (paired with EBC slotted discs). Still dusted like a mofo, which really disappointed me, and has dissuaded me from purchasing them again.

Yes, I've noticed you are...um...quite passionate about the Wearevers. I'm leaning that direction. Where in Chicagoland are you, btw?

LOL - right on! It's just a rare thing to find such a great value in anything, and that's why I'm a big fan.

Wearever Gold on the A7 is a semi-metalic pad which will create dust. Seems that all the Wearevers pads are a semi-metalic for the A7, looks to be the same on the S6. Advanced offers a ceramic made by Akebono and based on the description picture you should get the wear sensor with it. For my wife's Jeep I just put Wearever golds on the rears and they were a ceramic pad so I guess its based on application if they make them as a semi-metallic or a ceramic pad.

I believe that this is true - the pad formulations are different by application.

The pads for the S6 are/were indeed semi-metallic but they hardly dust at all, even though that's typically not the case with semi-metallic pads. (shrug)
