What should install in the rear to prevent cargo from sliding around?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I currently have a cargo cover in place in the rear of the vehicle; its a genuine Audi part. However, unfortunately, the cargo cover, though made out out of a rubberized material, doesn't prevent "stuff" from sliding around---probably the reason why the cargo cover was so cheap from the Audi dealer. There's no tough anti-skid feature.

    Is a solution for this?

Is that the only part available? I noticed a cargo net attaches to the hooks beneath the cargo liner. The cargo liner doesn't have any pre-cut outs; would I have to just cut four holes to gain access to the metal hooks?

I specifically did not scoop the OE cargo mat and went Weathertech. It has plenty of grip.

I've seen other trunk-related items for VWs; you may want to look into those.

I believe yes, there should be markings on the cargo liner around where the hooks are that you would need to cut out.

I have this and its great. Idk if you're trying to hold down large cargo but this is perfect for trips to the store/grocery runs etc. It doesn't move and folds real thin when not in use. If you have bigger items check out VW's CarGo blocks.

I should have gone with Weathertech as well instead of buying the OE cargo mat. I did however, go with Weathertech's ABS license plate frames for both rear and left

I've had this for about 4 or 5 years now through 3 different SUVs and it still looks great and functions perfectly. The bottom is weighted so it doesn't slide around. Not the cheapest option on $$ but I'm very happy with it. - https://www.amazon.com/Rola-59001-Ri.../dp/B000E81VN8

There are four tie-down rings, one in each corner. I use simple bungee cords, usually crisscrossing them to keep things in place. Cheap, versatile, effective. Virtually unlimited color choices, too, although black works great for me. If you have the plastic/rubber floor mat/cover, you will have to cut out the embossed area over each one of those tie -down rings.

I bought a couple generic spring-loaded cargo/trunk area grocery bag hooks and did a bit of a DIY job on my privacy cover:

Are you talking about the cargo cover or the rubber floor mat?
I have a method in which I wedge evrything in the back tightly. . .just one level to keep the CoG low, and nothing slides around, which is impressive for the way I drie sometimes.

I have been looking at several options for the rear cargo mat. I currently have both the summer and all weather mats from Audi and like them for all the seasons in the north east. What I have found is that the genuine Audi OEM cargo mat is poorly made. I had it in my old 2010 and 13 A4s and it's a plastic like material. Things slide all over as mentioned above.

For my Q I originally bought a velco 90 angle system but have found the system weakens with time.

Today I am going to buy the weather tech cargo mat with their cargo system and will report back. These are the cargo containment system. https://www.weathertech.com/cargotech/

Have rubber trunk mat. I purchased 2 folding plastic rectangular baskets for about $5 ea Opened them up .Put them on the floor one behind the other & secured them with bungee cord hooked to floor rings. Total about $15 & I can remove or put back in place in a few seconds. Have used this system in many vehicles.

That floor mat has a molded area in each corner marked by an image of scissors . Just cut that out to expose the D-rings below. Bungee cords are your friend, then. I agree on the use of the collapsible sided boxes or crates. I use them too. My wife started using those collapsible boxed in her own SUV and I soon adopted that system. Maybe not the most elegant solution, but it works

I sure wish Audi offered this system for the Q5. I had it in my Cadillac and it was great and very handy:

I have a bunch of the 90 degree plastic pieces with velcro on the bottom (from old VW's we've owned). I've used those before if needed. They won't work with the plastic cover, but work great on the carpet.

I just picked this up from Harbor Freight today; unfortunately doesn't work well with the Audi Cargo Mat. I do however have an idea which involves adding Velcro to the bottom of the tote which should prevent sliding around on the existing cargo mat. Had I known prior, I would have gone all Weathertech,
I had 20 water bottles, watermelon, and '2' loafs of bread loaded up in the Harbor Freight tote. By the time it came to unloading, I found the tote in direct contact with the hatch, lol
