Car had a front license plate. Just got a replacement grill insert to swap out where the license plate grille was, anyone have detailed instructions on how to swap it out? Thanks.

Should be extremely similar to an A6

I don't think this is what I need to do. I'm only replacing the grille insert where the license plate bracket was mounted, pretty sure the grille does not have to be completely removed. That right? This video is showing some major disassembly, not required I don't think.

    Official instructions say:
-Remove the front bumper cover end plate.
-Remove the front parking aid sensors.
-Release 4 tabs (found around the parking sensor holes) and remove license plate bracket from grill by pulling up and out on the lower portion first.

The bumper cover end plate is the first underbody protection piece on the undercarriage. It's easiest to put the car on jack stands for this. I'm assuming this is needed to reach sensors and tabs.

So you're looking to do the license plate delete, ie replacing the normal insert with a filler plate? Post a pic of the new part, front and back of it. It will probably show you where the clips are that you have to undo on your existing part.

Oh that just unscrews from the front of the grill, but there will still be holes in your grill. If you don't want holes, you will need to replace your grille.

When you can, post a picture of your grille as it is now

The instructions PynkFoydd above posted seem logical, however I can see snapping the plastic grill by doing it incorrectly. I'm starting to think that maybe it would be best to have a professional Indy/Audi mechanic do this, as much as I hate to pay for it.

Not too difficult if you have strong fingers.

This is my brief write up. Not very exhaustive.

Where did you buy the license plate delete and how much was it?

Great write-up, how did you remove the grille insert? Pull in, push out, start at top, bottom, sides?

Got mine off ebay for $129. - Seller is vehaus0, desription "Audi A7 Front Grille Cover Front Bumper Number Plate Bezel 4g8807287a T94" Its from Audi, not a knock-off. A guy on audiforums sent me a link to the seller, looked like a good deal so I got it. Maybe he has more, check it out.

The instructions I posted were straight from ElsaWin and exactly what a certified Audi mechanic would be reading. 99% of the time, I've had to follow Audi's instructions to the letter to complete a job (whereas I've been able to skip steps with BMW and Mercedes).

I've removed my grill to replace the front camera and accessing the bottom is pretty fool-proof. It just takes some muscle to get the bumper cover plate out and then back in. My trick to putting the car on jack stand is to use 2 jacks. ...I lift the car on the jack pad with one jack and remove the wheel, then place another jack topped with a hockey puck under the lower control arm and replace the first jack with a jack stand.

I can't recall if you can easily access the the parking sensors from the top or even get to the tabs. The top is a little tricky and requires removing the covers over the headlights, which have tabs that break easily if you force them. It only took me about an hour to remove my grill, replace my camera and thoroughly clean the radiator and undercarriage area.
