I have a 2010 Audi A4. Been researching that these turbos aren’t that good? What are the symptoms of a failing turbo?

Using OBDEleven or VagCom log Intake Manifold Pressure Commanded vs Intake manifold pressure actual. If actual isn't close to commanded, you have a boost issue.

If you don't have OBDEleven or VagCom you will get the MIL on after a hard acceleration because the requested boost is not being meet by actual boost of the turbo, that started on my 09 Avant about 9 months before I got around to replacing the turbo assembly.

The problem is the wastegate gets loose and you loose boost pressure, recearsch the B8 2.0T Wastegate problems and see that Audi has a design flaw that doesn't hold up over time.

I was reading about the wastegate issues. Also saw that the newer models don’t have this problem. Would a b8.5 turbo have any fitment issues with my b8?

I have a 2010 Audi A4 Avant. I just replaced my turbo. So the issue that I noted was the wastegate. When I upgraded my intake, I would hear a high pitch whistle noise. Had my car diagnosed and was told that my turbo was bad. The wastegate on the hot side was bad and there was a slight rattling from the wastegate actuator as well. The wastegate was loose and the flat wasn't closing all the way so when I would press on the gas to do a hard accelerate, my rpm would drop about a few hundred rpms and then increase. Because of the flat of the wastegate being loose, the turbo couldn't regulate the boost. I would get at times get a CEL. From what I've read and research, the Audi B8 model year turbos were bad. Hope this helps

Better to look directly at "charge air specified" vs. "charge air actual"; it's measured in hectopascals. It's the equivalent of boost pressure specified and actual on the b8.
