    Engine/Transmission whine?

Hi everyone recently I purchased a 2015 Audi S3 now at 75K miles and about a week after buying it I started to notice that when going to RPM's higher than normal cruising in D (about 2k) I start to hear what to me sounds like a gear whine that changes with RPM. It is consistent with any temp, cold or hot. This is my first DSG car and for all I know it could be normal but when trying to search for anything like mine I couldn't seem to find anything.

Has anyone else experienced a similar sound in their A3/S3? Is it normal or should I be concerned and take it in to get checked out? PS I have not changed the DSG fluid or filter but was planning to at 80K miles along with spark plugs, haldex fluid, and brake fluid + coolant flush.

I found the bevel box, not my DSG was low on oil...

The bevel box is the quattro drive differential on the DSG transmission...

Pictured here its the ring and pinion gears ontop.

The bevel box has separate drain and fill ports for its 75w-90 gear oil.

Thanks MikTip! It sounds like this could be the cause of my noise as well. Does the bevel box function like a manual trans / standard diff in regards to filling? Fill it until it starts to drip out of the fill port?

    Yes.

I was suprised mine was low...but like all the other Audi gearbox's/diff's...it vents to atmosphere...

Welp. Sadly it looks like the noise is not being caused by low oil in the bevel box. I opened up the fill screw and had some oil dripping out so it appears to be properly filled.

I think I'll go ahead and do my DSG service sooner than planned in case it is not properly filled and causing the noise.

I've done some more trouble shooting on the noise I'm having and I noticed it seems to be entirely RPM dependent and not related to wheel speed. This leads me to believe it could possibly be a pulley for the serpentine belt or another engine related issue. It almost sounds like a dying power steering pump but I know we have electric power steering so I know that can't be. When parked I've tried to listen for where it could be coming from but couldn't find a source of it.

    Anyone have any ideas?
