Anyone here use Liqui Moly Leichtlauf High Tech oil?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Normally I use Mobil 1 or Motul but decided to try out Liqui Moly back in April due to oil consumption. I ordered two 5 liter jugs from Amazon. First thing I noticed about the oil was how dark it was. Thought it was maybe used oil but the containers were sealed and didn't appear to be as dark as the oil I drained out so I thought that's how the oil is. Well, I decided to do an oil change last week since I'll be going on a few road trips in the near future. I ordered a 5 liter jug off Amazon and another 5 liter jug from FCP Euro since I needed some OEM parts and added the oil to get free shipping. But these two jugs that I received were not like the two I got from Amazon a few months ago. These were a lot lighter in color. So now I'm a little confused as to why they're different colors. Did they change the formula? Or did I receive a European version back in April cause the website on the back of the container ends with a ".de" but the ones I just got have ".us" and shows 5.28 quarts on the label too while the other doesn't. Anyone here who use this oil can chime in? First picture is the oil I put in months ago and second is the oil I did an oil change with recently.

Mine was from advanced auto parts and looked like your second picture. FWIW i found zero noticeable difference in startup rattle or any other characteristics between this oil and M1 0w-40.

Liqui Molly 10W-60 race tech is all I use in my M3. From what I understand it's one of the best of the best oils you can use for high performance - high compression German engines

I ordered the same kit from FCP Euro a few months ago and the Liqui Moly oil arrived looking like your second pic (goldish in color). If I had to bet, that first pic has to be used oil.

As a side note; since I switched to Liqui Moly oil from Mobil 1 0w-40 I have burned ZERO oil in ~3k miles of driving. When I was using M1 0w-40 I was adding at least a quart by now and about 1.5 quarts between oil changes at 5k miles.

I was using Liqui Moly Lecichtlauf 5w40 till I switching to Motul. The 1st picture definitely don’t look right, all the times I used Liqui Moly, it looks like de 2nd picture.

I just purchased the same oil from FCP and it looked very similar. Until seeing those pictures I had no idea the bottle had an integrated spout...

It was purchased from Amazon themselves, not a third party seller.

I believe even "amazon" stuff is third party and Amazon in general has a ridiculous amount of knockoff and fraudulent merchandise all the way down to fake ge refrigerator water filters to fake Energizer batteries. Have to be super careful with them

I ordered a "new" tensioner from Amazon (as the seller) about a month ago. Here's what I got:

I've used Liquimoly Lecichtlauf in my Audis up until they came out with Molygen. I switched over to that and it's been nothing excellent.

FWIW, I’m staying with Mobil 1 European Formula (FS) 0w40. I have used it exclusively since the initial oil change. Zero oil consumption between changes so far. No criticism of other oils, but no reason to switch.

I have used the LM 5W 40 in my B8.5 and Mk6 GTI for a long time. It's great oil. It always looks golden like your second pic...there is definitely something wrong with the oil in your first pic. If you used that oil, I would change the filter and oil right away. I wouldn't leave it. Scary.

Same, but very tempted to make the switch to Liqui Moly Molygen to use the FCP warranty.

Have nothing negative to say about Liquimoly I used it quite a bit in my S4 until I made the switch to Valvoline and BG Racing. A buddy who has a shop, locally, is the BG racing distributor and they run it with Valvoline which gives me a solid warranty on my motor. No noticeable difference between the performance and consumption of oil between the two. I simply made the switch because I wanted the engine coverage. If I stop using BG Racing additives, I will make the switch back to Liquimoly.

On my old B6 S4 it had ever so slightly better oil burn off rate and the chain rattle on cold start was minutely less audible than the Lecichtlauf. The effects were minimal and I didn't think there were going to be any. When I bought my B8.5 and I did an oil change from whatever oil was in it before to Molygen it had the same effects as earlier stated but to a much higher degree. The main difference between the two is the formulas. With Lecichtlauf you can use additives in the oil but with Molygen you can't according to an interview ECS Tuning did with a Liquimoly representative. Something about it upsetting the balance of whatever they put in it.

That first pic is filtered used oil. There should not be any other reason for that much discoloration. Amazon does make any products so everything is technically a 3rd party even down to the Kindle and Alexa. As far as the damage to your engine, I don't think you have anything to worry about but still discouraging for sure.

Molygen is only recommended under 502/505 where leichtlaufjflaksjdflkj is approved as far as i can tell??? Not that i completely pay attention to that but for somebody else who might.

First pic is 100% used oil. Just look at the discoloration of the spout. New oil won't leave that.

Yes. I have used the prior Synthoil High Tech in my B7 and B8 S4s. that is no longer made and now using their leichtlauf high tech. All are 5w40.

IIRC, they did change the bottles. Color purple a few times.

That first pic is used oil. Was there the seal on the bottle? Even if there was, the entire cap can be removed, which it looks as if it was. Look at the new bottle... there's a little piece of plastic at the bottom of the cap that is sitting in a gap of the ring around the threaded part of the bottle. It's still intact on the new bottle. The first bottle, that little nun of plastic is twisted up. It was opened. Someone twisted that cap off. Report the seller.
