    Rear seat delete

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know that some of y’all have done a rear seat delete.

Does anyone have a diagram or pointers on where the connection points are?

    Not sure where to start.

    Thanks in advance!

You need to take off the trim for the door...

    IMG_3276.jpg

To uncover the bolts for the back of the seat.

    IMG_3272.JPG

Bottom is really easy. Bolts around seat belt and plastic trim pieces for car seat. Do that first.

You do this to save weight for the track and strip? Thanks!

I've been thinking of doing the rear seat delete on my TTRS, especially as there is no-one who I expect to ever ride in the car who can actually fit in the back seat.
I was thinking about installing the beautiful cross-strut listed here: https://www.audi.com/en/experience-a...nce-parts.html
Too bad it's not offered here in the US; would need some serious wrangling with my dealer to make it happen...

Personally, I did it for the extra space to be able to haul my wheels/tires to events in the car and because there are ~40lbs of weight savings legal for the class I compete in...

You can order it yourself but it's pricey... You can find lots of carbon goodies on their site.

So I just took the bottom seat cushion off of the TTRS, and there are two speaker looking items under that seat. What are those?

Those provide access to the fuel tank fuel pump. They are just covers.

Post 9, that is so damn tasty!!!
But, $6750 before shipping, imo, is completely absurd.
We don't have a Bugatti, FFS.
Would really love to have that though, for when I do the rear seat delete. :/

Are there any better pics of what is needed to remove the trim of the door? I don't want to bust any of the plastic clips. Please post more pictures if possible.

Bumping this again because this is something I hope to accomplish before year end. If someone can explain where to start on the plastic and how to avoid damaging the panels that would be great.

Wish I could walk you through it. If nobody comes through I'd recommend purchasing the service manual - it will give you the shop procedures for doing it the exact same way the dealer would.

For $35, you can get a 1-day subscription to Audi's service guides with full information on what you're looking for https://erwin.audiusa.com/
Everything is in PDF, so if you take the time, you can easily download everything to your computer and then you'll have it forever. What you're looking for is in the Body Interior section.

I mean that's over 50lbs that the seat is pretty much useless. There must be more if you pull the seat belts and such as well. I would love to eliminate all the crap back there and just install a custom fitted carpet with some stitching to match.

Chuckster, in those Brit photo's it appears only the rear seat backs have been removed with bases retained. That would seem to be a negative weight savings if a metallic multi-bar strut brace and close to parity if carbon fiber. But of course that mod representation might have been done mostly for increased rigidity.

The bottom of the seats just lift right out and they don't weigh much. If you kept those in but removed the seat back which are the heavy parts you wouldn't have to fabricate anything. As for the brace, I think those are more for show than for go.

I installed the bar to increase rigidity in the hatch/glass area. I’d imagine the uppermost bar can accomplish that without the lower and middle bars, similar to my old Road Race Engineering bars for previous cars I owned, but BAF is the only off the shelf option I was aware of. And I was not spending $6k on the cf Audi Sport one. Ha! I didn’t remove anything from the original interior. I need the seats for the occasional baby trip and this bar does not interfere with them at all.

Those are very nice. Is your compnay working on more trim pieces for the MQB platform; maybe even a 2.5L DAZA engine cover?

I'll reply quickly not to hijack this thread but yes, MQB especially TTRS is a platform I am really interested in. I am currently making a 2.5L engine cover as a fun/test project, full carbon with the red coil pack cover. When it comes to laminating oem parts, there is very limited development involved if any so sure, trim pieces can be done even if not on the website yet.

    Rear seat delete

Following up the project, here's the Cliff Notes.

Didn't break anything! Actually, I was just poking around, and next thing I knew I was sitting in my trunk pulling panels.

There is an image on the thread, reply #19; gives you a really good idea on how the panel needs to be pulled.

Your first step will be removing the trunk liner and foam inserts. There is a nut behind the seats that will become accessible with the foam out.

The biggest PITA is removing the plastic panels. You will bleed your own blood....

The back of the seat is separate from the bottom; only connected by the plastic bits around the things to hold a kid's seat.

The back of the seat is held by that nut accessible from the trunk, and another under the seat cushion(center). Then there are 4 bolts, two on either side; accessible once panels are removed. You'll need a T55 torx, 6" extension, and be prepared to pull like hell... they are in there good!

Then you pull it all out and put back what you want. The actual seats are maybe 4lbs, but the seat backs are every bit of 40 some pounds.

The diamond stitched vinyl was just a trunk liner i bought for my wife's old X5, then I ordered the trunk mat for the TT. I used the X5 mat to cover the areas with exposed paint.

In a previous life I used that pink foam board used for insulation to build my rear seat delete. That stuff is inexpensive, super lightweight and easy to cut with a razor blade. Once fitted the way you like you spray it with 3M glue and toss a thin carpet (like the stuff used for sub boxes) over it. On this car it would be easy to level off the rear seat portion with the hatch area and make it look factory.
