Should I change valve gasket at the same time i replace my PCV valve?

    First time poster, I have a 2005 Audi A4 B7 2.0t that I have owned for about 8 months.

I noticed the valve gasket is leaking, so I did a PCV test where I try to remove the oil cover with the engine running. It was pretty locked up, once I did get it off the pressure almost sucked me into the head! The engine ran terrible too.

So far I know I need a new PCV valve. Should I go with the delete or just replace it? Its such an old car I hate to do too much to it. So far I am leaning to just replacing it.

Also, should I go genuine Audi or 3rd party? Any recommendations?

My main question is, should i do the valve gasket as well? Will it recover with a new PCV? Or is the gasket shot...

When the PCV goes there is generally a loss of vacuum in the valve cover area when you remove the oil filler cap there is little residence, the main thing is that there is an early B7 and a late B7 2.0T PCV the silver\metal valve cover is early and the late is black plastic. Only change the valve cover gasket if is obviously leaking. It sounds like you have good vacuum so may not be PCV and no leaking valve cover.

So, I guess I got the results of the PCV test backwards.

I do really know what I am doing LOL, I just got confused on that part...Thanks for the info, I will proceed with the valve gasket.

If your PCV valve was making pressure so high in the head that oil is being pushed out of the valve cover gasket then yes, replace the valve cover gasket.

A valve cover gasket and PCV valve isn’t expensive from the dealer so I would go with genuine parts.

And the reason why the oil cap is difficult to remove is because the pressure is pushing UP on the cap, not pulling it down. Finally opening up the cap vents the pressure.

If you have excessive crankcase pressure a quick test is to simply pull the oil dipstick out and put it back in. If the car is running funny before you pull the dipstick and runs better after you pull it out and put it right back in, you had excessive crankcase pressure and pulling the dipstick vents it. 😀
