Best bang for your buck slotted and drilled rotors and break pads... GO!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've had my 15 S5 for about a month now and am looking at replacing the rotors and break pads (that hopefully produce less dust)...

I've found quite a few candidates but I wanted to use this knowledge base as a resource before I pull the trigger on anything.

I've got the ECS V4 drilled and slotted rotors with EBC red stuff pads as a kit from ECS, couldn't be happier with this setup. They had a sale on the kit when I got mine.

I have always been a fan of the Hawk HPS brake pads. Used them for years. They are not dust free but they are lower dust than the OEM pads. This time I decided to try something different and I installed the Akebono pads on my A5. So far I am totally satisfied. The performance is fine for a street application and the dust is practically nonexistent. Akebono is now going to be my pad of choice.

I have the Hawk HPS on currently and couldn't be happier with the performance, and low dust. I've yet to try Akebono but a lot of folks here have the same opinion as Old Guy. I have the JHM 2-piece slotted rotors, which are significantly lighter than stock, and supposedly run cooler due to the vane design. Not a fan of drilled rotors after a bad experience with cracking years ago.

I've had Hawk HPS pads on the Evo since about 2007 or 2008. I also had them on my STI for nearly the entire 10 years I owned the car. Always was super happy with them, but they can get pretty loud in certain conditions. Certainly not as loud as stock S5 pads though.

A great combo for sure! I'll continue to use Hawks on the A4 since that one is my "go kart" for when I want to get a little sporty behind the wheel ;-)

My A5 is used more as a cruiser so the quietness and dust free performance from the Akebono's fits the bill better for the A5.

This is what I’ve got and have been pretty happy. Thinking of giving the ECS 2 piece a try with the Akabono ceramic pads. I like the idea of reducing 6lbs per front and 3lbs per rear.
