    Mabotech Tuning experience

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
For the last couple of months ive been on a tuning adventure with Frank at Mabotech. When I got the car I was surprised that no one really custom tuned cars on this platform. I came from a Mazdaspeed 3 where you were looked at funny if you were running an off the shelf "cookie cutter" map. I purchased a Eurodyne cable and OTS tune from them with the intentions of using Maestro when it was available for this platform.

I found Frank through a big Euro shop down here in South Florida, Novitech Tuning. They posted a car for sale on their IG and it mentioned it was custom tuned using Maestro so I reached out and asked them who they used and if they were happy. Turns out all the local guys use him and have nothing but good things to say about him and his work. Perfect.

I reached out and we were able to start that day. He's able to sell credits to register Maestro for the car so I bought the appropriate amount and registered my car. I sent him logs of the basemap that Eurodyne provides and it was off to the races, sort of. At this point my mods were 57/180, ported charger by S4Matty, ported OEM throttle body by S4Matty, MercRacing hx, ECS intake. We got 4 revisions in and thanks to the South Florida weather my IATS were to the point where he didn't feel comfortable going any further. He mentioned that he's tuned another s4 with methanol injection and in Florida its pretty much needed to capitalize on the modifications ive done to the car. I didn't really want to go meth because I read that it takes the coating off the rotors but whatever. I found a sick deal on an AEM kit here on the forums and bought it as well as the meth plate by iAbed for a stock throttle body. I had him open it up to match the ported supercharger. I installed the kit and we kept going and ended up with this log.

I reached out to iAbed for one of his 75mm Porsche kits and when I threw it on I left the tune as is and this is the log for that. Big thanks to him as well. His customer support is awesome and responds to emails wicked fast. His kit is extremely easy to install and you can tell the difference in the logs. If you're on the fence about getting a 75mm tb don't even think about it and just do it.

I reached back out to Frank and told him I got a throttle body and to see if we can squeeze out more power and he was on board for it. We did a few street pulls and then he asked me to jump on a dyno to safely squeeze some more power out. We did a few pulls on the dyno but I arrived kind of late to the shop so I wasn't able to finish the tune on the dyno. As I was getting off the dyno he sent me my latest map which I had to log on the roads of Mexico. We ended up with this log. When he's in town I might get with him and make an ethanol map to get some more timing out of it but as of right now this is just 93 and 50/50 VP Racing M1.

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/13Qd...ew?usp=sharing

Lets backtrack a little. After the throttle body, I started getting the treacherous sputter in 4th gear that's explained in this thread https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...ut-appreciated!)

I reached out to Frank and he said that the tune shouldn't have anything to do with it and after I specifically explained to him how I could replicate the problem he looked at the map and sent me a revision to test. In one revision he was able to fix my issue and it no longer happens after trying to replicate it in different conditions, speeds, gears, everything.

As far as my TCU tune im running the Eurodyne stage 1 file they provide. Frank and all of the locals, vw and audi enthusiasts, swear by TVS tcu tunes which he is a dealer for. He mentioned it and I might take him up on that offer when he makes his next trip here.

Overall I'm extremely happy with the experience. I would email him on weekends with logs and he would answer that day with map revisions or answers to questions I would ask. He works 7 days a week and I was to the point of including "you don't have to answer today it can wait til Monday during working hours" in my emails.

    TLDR

Wanted custom tune. Had Eurodyne already. Found Frank at Mabotech Tuning. Got a custom tune by him. https://www.mabotech.net/

Nice write up, but I'm curious of the cost. If its in the ball park of an off the shelf tune it might not be really beneficial for most of the folks on this platform who might just want more speed but not every 10th from the platform.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

TVS TCU tune sounds interesting - for those of us in South FL.
I wonder if they do the full upgrade, with clutch packs?

Great to hear someone is getting good results with Maestro. So far you are the first I've seen on a custom Eurodyne file. Did you do a Dyno pull on the base file and again after adjustments? I'm wondering how much you picked up over the base file. Got any logs before adding/tuning for water meth?

The price is 165 USD in Eurodyne credits for Maestro plus his fee which is 500 bucks. You’ll need a Eurodyne cable as well which I bought mine second hand on the forum.

I unfortunately didn’t get a baseline. All of my mods just happened. This car was supposed to stay stock. Famous last words. I can see if I can find my log that we ended at before meth. It wasn’t impressive lol.

What was suggested for my level was their stage 3 tune that keeps the dsg stock.

Did you run the basic Eurodyne dual pulley file for a while before getting the custom tune or did you go from stock to custom tune DP? If you had the OTS tune for a while would you say it feels much stronger now that it's been optimized? Reason for wanting to see those logs is I will never add w/m and there are no e85 stations in my province so im limited to 94octane.

Its a night and day difference from the dp file from ED. Just in the logs alone you can see the power come on faster and the afr's are a lot cleaner. I think I posted their dp logs in the eurodyne thread.

Reminder. Make sure your logging road is as smooth as possible to avoid false knock. Here is a back to back pull. The second log is on a different road not far from the first pull.

TVS dealer in FL? That's a game changer, I thought it was only in CA & NY.

He’s based out of DR but comes to FL a lot. Today he read my tcu and sent it off to TVS. Tomorrow I should have the file.

Not thread jacking but I feel here is a good place to post vs a new thread. I'm excited to join the mabotech maestro tuned s4 team. Frank Mabo is actively tuning my b8 s4. Current mods 200mm KI crank pulley. Basic Airbox mod afe filter and silicone backpipe with stock exhaust. Will revise tune further after I install PLM v2 HX. Base tune Frank provided was an improvement over the server provided stage 2 and DP files. I can't wait to feel the full tune after HX install. I will update with logs when we get a revision in. Plan to finish with a Dyno in central florida.
