Considering purchasing a RS6 after my 04 S4 had terminal meltdown after a piston arm washed to escape out the side of the engine. Anything I should look out for or inquire about? Anything specific like timing chains carbon build-up.. Etc.

    Thanks in advance.

Port injection, no carbon buildup. Timing belts, no timing chains. Replacement interval on the timing belt is 35k miles.

Brakes are expensive (8 piston calipers, shared with R8, RS4, RS5, Lamborghini Gallardo).

Transmissions had trouble handling all the torque and many have been replaced, especially if the car is tuned.

DRC suspension is prone to failure - look for a car already converted to traditional shocks.

It was $82,700 when new in 2003 ($115k in 2019 dollars). Maintenance and parts costs are commensurate with that initial price.

Fairly new RS6 owner here....mine has 103k and was well cared for...

As said above, DRC will probably fail if it hasn't already...I'm saving for options on mine as I have a leak.
Intercoolers are prone to leaking, mine already has the Wagner upgrade thankfully.
Check to see if recall has been done to the fuel rollover valve...mine started leaking, Audi fixed it for free, but took 3 weeks to schedule.
Timing belt is 35k as mentioned above, check to see if cam chain tensioner shoes have been replaced yet, they seem to last about 100k at this age.
Mine now has a vac leak under the manifold (most likely suction jet), about $100 in parts, but probably a 15 hour job at home.
If the parts aren't expensive, the labor or amount of time to repair is as everything is stuffed in any nook and cranny under the hood.

For the good, they sound and feel incredible for a 16 year old car, really nothing like it!
