    Hey Guys,

I Have A 2012 A4 2.0T S-Line. Last Night When I Was Driving I Heard A Loud Metal Sound. I Thought I Ran Over A Steel Plate In The Ground (From Road Work) But When I Exited The Car, I Noticed The Passenger Side Front Was Dropped Almost To The Tire.

Below Are Pictures Of The Issue & How It Currently Stands. All Advice & Feedback Is Greatly Appreciated. Thank You, Do Your Thing Audi Zine!IMG_9285.jpgIMG_9284.jpg

Pull the wheel off and look around. Could be a mount, spring, bolt etc.

Alright, Thank You. Another Question - What Caused This To Happen? How Much Will It Cost To Fix Approximately? Feedback Appreciated!

Broken spring. No idea on cost. Springs themselves are cheap. It's about the labour. Do not take to Audi unless you have CPO .
Any suspension shop can fix this . Do both sides

Ok Thats Exactly What I Thought It Was. Ill Just Go Ahead And Replace All 4 Of The Springs, Or Do You Think I Could Just Get Away With Replacing 2?

    Thank You!

    how many miles on car?
did you hit a bump or pothole?

I知 an audi tech, and generally (my shop) they値l charge about an hour of diagnosis to find problem and quote you for the problem. if it is a spring I imagine it SHOULD cost less than 2 hours of labor for doing 1 spring. but I can imagine that it痴 common to also suggest a new strut and hardware.

all depends on what the problem it is.

if it is the broken spring, you can probably just replace it with 1, as long as it's the same exact spring, and as long as the other spring isn't that old yet. springs don't really wear out that quick so even if the other side is like 2 years old i would assume it will still have the same strength as a new one so it will match up just fine. but depends how old and how much wear is on it i guess, but otherwise yes you can just replace with 2 that's fine, as long as it's the same type again.

so are these your original stock springs? i would just get the same OEM ones, you can keep the same ride height and comfort and all that and not have to replace more than 1-2. only reason to change up all 4 springs would be if you were trying to lower the car, but that would also require all new shocks which are made for the lowered height, so that makes it all more expensive in total. just replace the 1 damaged spring with the same exact one again and that should be all you need. and then have them check maybe if that 1 shock was affected, or something wrong there with the spring mount/plate, etc so that you can be sure of anything else besides the spring itself.

im in Canada and lke the Northeast US there is a fair amount of salt used. it is always advisable to replace springs in pairs. If you are in Maryland maybe not , but i would replace both. Ask to see the spring, if its broken due to corrosion ......

So, it was a shock and not the spring? Would be interesting to see how it failed.

It Was Shock That Failed, It Was A Stock One. Im Guessing It Was Just Old & Broke Upon Driving Over Rough Roads. I Plan To Do Coilovers All The Way Around.

Maybe the spring seat moved passes the lip on the shock ? Only way I can think of for it to drop down like that without it literally breaking
