C7.5 Audi A6 Trunk LED Conversion

Compatibility:

This was done on a 2016 Audi A6 TDI with the 3.0. I cannot confirm if it's the same for other models/years.

Why:

The question of the day. Why does the A6 with prestige package come with LED interior lights but for some stupid reason the trunk light was forgotten? It's stupid. I tried to buy the bulb from Audi but my service manager said they don't sell individual LEDS. So I bought the bulb from O'Reilly Auto Parts.

Disclosure:

Do at your own risk. If you damage you Audi or yourself the only one you can blame is yourself. That be said this is easy peezy.

Things Needed:

LED bulb. Small trim removal tool or flathead screwdriver. Gloves to protect your hands the stock bulb is hot, and a little patience.

Step One:
Pop trunk, and look above you. I used a small flat head and popped the light out. Use the clips to remove the plug. Check the bulb and make sure it was the same as mine If you plan on buying the same bulb I bought Mine said W5W Sj5. I'm not a bulb expert so if yours is different take the bulb in and get someone to help find you an LED replacement.

Step Two:

Replace bulb with a compatible LED bulb. I got mine from O'Reilly Auto Parts and was nice enough to post the picture of the receipt so you can easily walk in and give them the part #. The bulb size says... 168 also fits 194/2825. There was a red colored bulb and a 600k white. You choose.

Step Three:

Install new bulb and plug in. If all is well push bulb housing back into place. Boom your done.

Step Four:

Wait until dark and admire your fancy new trunk light.

Awesome! Another option, be it more involved is what I did to the trunk/hatch in my A7. It’s beyond me why Audi thought 2 tiny incandescent bulbs would be enough to illuminate the entire trunk area on the A7, especially at night . So I spliced and soldered 2 LED strips to the existing trunk light wire and now its way better! They are under the cargo divider which made for a cleaner finish. The whole job took about 2 hours, which included mock-up, a few panel removal, splicing, soldering and reassembly but the effort was worth it. I have the LED package but I guess Audi forgot about the trunk and the reverse light (took care of that issue today).

I had 17 A6 P+ and now a 18 S6 Prestige. There is a small LED in the trunk light holder, but its a single led that is very dim. So yours was incandescent? That is weird. I did my own modification for my trunk and its pretty damn bright now. Also my friend with a 18 S6 P+ has the same dim LED in his trunk.

Yeah no LED in mine. If you can get that part # maybe others can use it for an OEM replacement. The bulb I got from O'Reilly Auto Parts is bright enough in my opinion.

This is what I did. Very easy to do. Add these 2 strips along with your existing trunk lite. I placed my light strips at the rear sort of angled downwards.

Yes it ships with a connector that plugs into your existing bulb assembly and housing. It takes some force it to close but it works out eventually. I had posted some pics way back when I did it but cannot find the post.
