    3.0T Fuel Injectors DIY

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So recently my Check engine light came on as well as the EPC light after I started up the car and it was shaking violently. Turned the car off and back on and the issue went away. Dealer did a diagnostic and found no misfires on cylinder 4 & 6. A few days later the issue came back and now the dealer is recommending replacing #6 injector and quoting me $1500 bucks!

Anyone know the part numbers so I can shop around online to get the injectors myself? Is this an easy DIY job?

It is NOT an easy DIY. Direct injection uses dangerous levels of fuel pressure. Obviously it can be done but extreme caution needs to be used.
The injector itself is $150-$200 but more parts than just the injector might be needed.

Our 3.2 Q5 had misfires and shaking and I took off the throttle body and cleaned it on both sides. This may not resolve your issue but it sure is a cheaper option to start with and it can't hurt to have a clean throttle body.

You would want to change the plugs first and see what the cyl 6 plug looks like, could be a leaking intercooler.

I have to disagree. I've been in there multiple times and there is no need for "extreme caution." Anyone that can turn a wrench can easily do this.

Here’s a little background from my first visit to dealer last Monday:

”Tech found 2 faults for cylinder misfires in #4 and #6 ; both sporadic. Checked for misfires with engine running. No misfires at this time. Swapped spark plug # 4 with spark plug # 1 and plug # 6 with # 3. Swapped coil pack # 4 with # 2 and coil pack # 5 with # 6. Re-checked system and still no misfires. Tech put in 1 can of fuel additive in gas tank and left customer with another can of fuel additive to use at next fill up.“

Two days later, check engine light and epc came back and this is what the dealer said:

“ We cannot get this car to misbehave for us. The check engine light is on, but the epc warning is not. And it started right up for us. Please tell me when exactly this is happening,. Because we cannot reproduce your concern. 1 fault happened 1 time for sporadic misfire on cylinder 6. The last time it was 4 and 6. My tech would like to order and replace the fuel injector.”

Is this something I can just do? It sounds like one injector needs replacing. Can you give me some pointers before doing this?

Either way you're going to have to pull the supercharger, so you'll know if you have a leaking intercooler causing your problem (my guess based off description).

Really? For you sure, but for a novice?
    "WARNING
There is a risk of injury because the fuel is under very high pressure.
♦ Reduce the fuel pressure down to residual pressure before opening high pressure area of the fuel injection system"

Pretty strong warning if you don't already know what you are doing....

Dealer says Tech confirmed there is no intercooler leakage. For parts, dealer quoted me $697. I was able to source all the parts off of AudiUSAParts for $383. This is my first time replacing injectors, any tips and steps? I might have my local mechanic do it for me if it’s not too expensive for labor.

Step 1, unplug fuel pump fuse.

Step 2, turn on car until it dies from lack of fuel, depressurizing the system.

Exactly. But to the unknowing novice.

Step 1, proceed to disconnect fuel line.

    Step 2, Call 911.

Supercharger is off with 6 bolts
The old injectors come right out/if stubborn wiggle it out gently
Replace all seals /o rings Everytime you remove an injector .use OEM parts only
I had all mine tested and flow matched etc
You can go that route instead of replacing maybe

Details for changing the water pump but the beginning shows what is needed to yank the SC. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...Removed-(Pics)

    Video for same job. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyZL...ature=youtu.be

Look at these to get info on what has to come apart to get the SC out.

Since you have the SC off to do this, might be a good time for a new thermostat, water pump, and PCV / oil separator. All three of these involve yanking the SC off the engine.

Thanks! My mechanic is working on it now, new therm, checking the injectors and replacing the 2 if necessary from original diagnostics and will work on the carbon build up in the intakes.
