    B7 A4 Avant DTM build

Hey all! I've posted my ride all over Facebook but wanted to have a place to log all of the changes that have gone into my build. The hard parts were taken care of by Our Technik in Burnsville MN. If you're ever in Minnesota and need work they would be the go to! My ride started off as a basic 2005.5 A4 Avant that was well loaded. I started like most with upgraded wheels and suspension (ST Coilovers). Beyond that I just tried to keep up with the maintenance! Again, it was fun but....basic. That's when I reached out to Nur Tecnik to see what my options were to give the car some extra go and I initially was going to go for a full Stage 3+ APR setup but the issues were I was still rocking the Tiptronic and it kept getting in the way of me having fun! I decided if I have to swap for a manual transmission it better be worth it! Soo after some long hard thoughts, looking at my bank account balance, and a few hard shots to drink I decided I needed a 2.7T with K04 upgrades and a 6spd manual swap to make this car perfect!

All the supporting maintenance and mods were added to the list to get the 2.7T ready to be installed. I went with the similar stuff that everyone else does with bolt-on upgrades:

2.7T BEL Engine resealed, timing bet, and water pump replaced
    03A 6 Speed Manual

    SRM K04 RS4+ Turbo
    1 BAR Wastegate upgrade
V2 SRM Intercooler Kit with RS4 Hose Kit
    034 Stainless Steel Bi-Pipe Set
    EV14 52lb Injector Set
    AMD Clutch Kit Stage 3+
    flywheel ?
    034 Street Density Motor Mounts
    Poly snub mount
    Walboro 450lph Fuel Pump
Fast Intentions Exhaust System X Pipe 2.5
    SSAC 3” Downpipe
    JEGS Dual Fan Controller
    Stage 3 AMD tune

Suspension /brakes: I went with a Rotorlab.com for their 18z front kit with 345mm cross drilled rotors and S4 rear with 300mm cross drilled rotors. I will be adding a RS4 rear roll bar soon and swapping out the ST coilovers with Airlift V2 performance suspension. I'm running 18x8 enkei ekm3 wheels in gunmetal grey but looking for a decent set of 19's currently.

Interior: For the Interior I sourced a set of Magma Red B8 S5 seats front and rear. Everything works electrically but the Airbags are still a work in progress. I installed a Ricks Custom Wheels B7 A4 flat bottom steering wheel in red and black leather. I made custom black leather with red diamond stitching door cards with piano black trim. RS4 pedal set installed. I will be upgrading the arm rest, shift boot and ebrake handle in the same red leather to tie everything together! I ordered black trim and side panels from a B7 S4 and will be covering the headliner and anything that is cream will be wrapped with Alcantara.

Exterior: The most obvious upgrade is the DTM front end conversion! I sourced it part by part and it is by far my favorite mod to this car! I have Carbon Fiber Relak side skirts, a RS4 Style rear spoiler, and I'm currently looking for a S4 quad tip DTM rear bumper to graft onto my rear bumper. For wheels I've narrowed it down to a couple but my favorite so far are the TSW Mechanica in Gunmetal and black.

Electronics and sound: I installed a Xtrons Android 8.0 deck with CT Sounds Meso 6.5 components in custom spacers front and rear with 2 JL Audio 10W0V3-4 subs in custom enclosures. its all powered by a set of JL amps, one JX400/4D for the doors and a JX500/1D for the subs. The doors, floor, and side panels are covered in Kilmat sound deadening to keep everything nice and crisp sounding! The Xtrons deck is fitted with a reverse camera, aTPMS module, and ODB2 connection to the ecu.

I think I covered everything and if I missed something I'll add it!

Thanks! I'm trying to upload all the pictures I have... I was spotty at best with taking any decent pictures of the build unfortunately. They are definitely an improvement in comfort and style over the standard B7 seats!

Always hurts to see other people living out your dreams haha

Sounds like an amazing build, nothing beats a 2.7t avant, I'm still debating whether I'll do a manual swap with a built 2.0T or do it right and go all the way with a 2.7T swap but I think if I see some pictures of your build my wallet's gonna have to bite the bullet

Doing a manual swap probably isn’t worth it without doing the 2.7T swap. It would be easier for you to just sell your car and buy a manual car and build up the 2.0T in that car. But if you’re going to 2.7T swap your car then the manual swap would make sense because you would probably be able to pick the transmission best suited for that motor swap.

And what I mean is, you wouldn’t want to go through the hassle of doing a 02X swap in your 2.0T and then do a 2.7T swap which you’ll probably want to use a 01E trans with. If you’re going to just build a 2.0T, just sell your tip and buy a car with a O2X already.

Yeah that was my thinking with it as well since a 2.7T has far more tuning potential as well and seeing the amount of swapped B7's on here means a lot of info is available. Plus I figure I can source a pre 2002 2.7T parts car like an A6 or something for relatively cheap and track down an 01E without breaking the bank and make most of my money back selling the tiptronic and the 2.0T. I feel like if you're going through all the trouble of swapping the trans it better be worth it.

Do you by any chance know if there's a big difference between having a 2.0T as a base car vs a 3.2 since I know that swapping a 3.0T is much better if you have a 3.2 base car and I wonder if the same case is with the 2.7T since I'm pretty sure Ali SC3 who swapped his car and posted a well documented thread for it did it on a 2.0T but I could be wrong.

All I know is I for sure won't sell the car since its an ocean blue pearl 2008 sline avant and I've already dumped way too much money into it.

Don't mean to thread jack OP, its just that your build really hyped me up again to look into a 2.7T swap again and with me getting a company car now might be a good time to start.

Starting with V6 is said to be easier.

02X works great with a 2.7t. Its a far suprior gearbox in every metric except for arguably durability. But if you want it to handle more power, just toss in an 0A3 from an S4. There is almost zero reason to use an 01E these days.

Why the hell would anyone want a O2X? Our gears are hella long.

O3A would be my choice if I could. 😀

They’re not that long. Remember, the 2.7t has waaay more low end and top end. No reason to have short gears when you have that much torque.

I mean realistically we should all just get mk7 Rs because this:

Hahaha, thanks man! It's an amazing machine now. I went back and forth on building the 2.0t or doing this swap and very glad I went this way..... my wallet does not have the same feelings! I went with the BEL 2.7T and the 0A3 6spd. The combo is very solid so far! I did the basic bolt on stage 3 parts (SRM turbos and IC's). My plans will be to build the block soon and go for some larger turbos, more fueling, and be happy!

Thanks, it’s coming along! The back seats were done by the shop whole did the swap. The base is plug and play the rear folding section needs a bushing to center the pins and you’ll need to figure out a rear latching solution for the top.

It’s all stock S5 coupe seating. I was as surprised as anyone when it all went together, lol....it was a bit of a gamble because I have only heard of one or two other people doing it. The side bolster is the only pet that’s not an exact perfect fit. https://www.instagram.com/p/BzYr8Prl...=1ffvcdz5sknw8
