    New 2019 RS3 1/4 mile and 1/8 mile results

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Took the new 2019 RS3 to the 1/8th and 1/4 mile tracks these past two Friday's..

Both evenings were 85+ degrees accompanied with Southern humidity. I do not have the DA for either night..

2019 RS3 - 93 octane - full weight - 3/4 tank of fuel - plus 225 lbs. to include me and gear. Scales at both tracks were not working..

The RS3 ran fairly well but I honestly expected a little more out of it. I'll go into more details on that another time. My two previous cars were a 2014 Audi S4 B8.5 APR Stage II+ and a 2016 BMW 340i M Sport with a JB4 tune and down pipe and both cars were faster than the RS3 in it's stock form. The RS3 only has 1,800 miles on it and I was very kind to her during the entire break in period. I plan to go stage 2 in the next few months or so.

Attached are some videos and slips.. There was a lot of tough competition both nights..

    Best Time: 12.435 @ 111.69 mph
    Best Trap: 12.499 @ 112.07 mph

2019 RS3 - Black - Unitronic Stage 1+ ECU 93 and E85 tune and Unitronic Stage 2 TCU Tune, APR Intercooler, APR Turbo Inlet and Open Air Intake, IROZ DSG Catch Can and Engine Catch Can, ECE Poly DogBone Mount, P3 Gauge - E85 Content Monitor, Neuspeed RSe10 18x9 wheels Satin Black, MP4S 255/35/18. Best of: 1/8 mile 7.006 @ 102.28mph, 1/4 mile 10.828@ 129.78mph, 60-130 - 7.86, 1/2 mile 17.29 @155.59mph

You ECU adapts and the car gets quicker. How did you ran? on dynamic or manual shifting? have you decided what stage 2 are you going with?
    8V RS3 11.703@117-118.94 mph (ran a few 11.7s stock and ran 118+mph several times)
    8Y RS3 k&N filter ran 11.60@120.62 (ran 11.6 5 times and trapped 120+ several times)
    at 3100ft elevation

If you look at your Dragy results in the app history, it should tell you the DA.

. I ran it in dynamic sport auto and used launch control. I can tell there is a lot more there and it just needs to be unleashed. Just like the S4, a tune and a few bolt ons will wake it up for sure. I'm probably going to go all APR or maybe Uni.. This is my daily.

Yeah.. I was hoping to be closer to 12 seconds flat... I babied it for the first 1,500 miles for break in and changed the oil. It could still be going through ECU adaptation. The DA was between 3500 and 3800.

The Temp, feet above sea level and DA is not listed on the top of my Performance Report. I have not used the dragy in 8+ months or so and the app probably needs to be updated. Thanks for the heads up...

According to this, and your time slips, it looks like it was between 3300 and 3400 feet DA.

There's a least 0.1 of time lost in the 60'.

Someone needs to put a 2019 on the dyno and see what it makes for real. We know the 2017/2018 models are conservatively rated at 400 hp, with the real number being more like 420-430.

That was your first error. Launches aside, you should have run it hard when appropriately warmed up. Ignore the manual, thats audi telling you what they want you to do, not what's best for the engine power wise.

Your 60ft is "ok" but should really be in the 1.7x range. You are also down 3 to 4mph of trap speed. fwiw, my prefl 370hp RS3 ran a 12.4@110mph dead stock in summer.

I concur with the comments regarding the 60' times. The car is capable of doing 1.7 sec 60' stock. you might be seating on the launch control for too long. My 1.8's always came from sitting still and engaging the launch control for a few seconds waiting for the car next to me to line up on the light tree. One tenth off your 60' will drop 2 tenth on your ET so you would be in the low 12's.

Just to help easy anyone worried or thinking 2019s are weaker as a result of this thread.

    My 2019 for comparison
My invalid run on dragy with a -1.4% slope
    330ft 4.93
    1/8: 7.58@92.71
    2600ft DA

its hard to get a valid run and not go to jail but i do have a valid run(+.2% slope) of 8.02@71.92 with a 5.01 330ft where i let out at 75 and coasted to the 1/8th DA around 3300ft.

Now that its 100+f outside I wont be getting out to try any runs till fall.

    All this in AZ.

    I have a 2019 TT RS and ran a best of 11.63@117. 89F with ~2200 DA.

Perhaps gas quality is contributing to the lack of MPH too. As others have said, my quickest 60' times have come from being on the launch limiter very briefly.

I personally run in Dynamic, ESC full off, and manual mode. I let the car auto shift 1-2 and then manually shift.

Put a couple of gallons of E85 in her if you have any close by, I wouldn't do more than 2 or 2.5 gallons though. Should help with any timing that might be getting pulled.

congrats on the 2019 and glad to see your out having fun with it.

With that high of a DA im not surprised by your times. Most of the guys running in the 11's have done so in great weather.

are you logging the car at all? this engine is very sensitive to fuel quality and that could also be contributing to your problems

I Agree!! When launching the S4 if I released the brake while rpm's were just about to peak it would, at times result in slightly better trap speeds and times. I really didn't get a lot of time on the 1/4 mile track which is Atlanta Dragway and was only able to get three 1/4 mile runs in before someone wiped out and ended the night... The next weekend at the 1/8 mile track - Atlanta Motor Speedway is a single elimination competitive Friday night event which is held in the pit lane and they do not provide time slips. You lose and you go home.. I was able to make a few test runs before the event but for some reason all the runs I made were invalid on the dragy so I deleted. I was put in the Tuner Class which made the most sense and I picked what I thought I was the fastest car to run against for the first run and was eliminated by a stage II Stinger (I know...they are fast but that hurt) and went home early instead of sticking around all night to get eliminated on the last run which usually takes place around 1:00am.

I almost didn't post any of my initial results in fear of causing an uproar or some BS performance controversy on the 2019's. That is not my intention at all and I truly believe that platform is one of the best out there and that's why I bought one.. It's very difficult to get valid runs where I am in north GA. too. Between the police, mountainous roads and traffic it's nearly impossible. It's hard to get a flat 60 mph run in let alone a valid 1/8, 1/4 or 1/2 mile run. I did have several 1/8 mile runs in the mid/high 7 second range but were invalid so I did not post or share and deleted.

Thanks Brian. I've been learning from you since you purchased the S4 B8.5. You have always been extremely respected and very professional and helpful on these forums and I truly value your opinion. Fuel and DA is what I contributed to the not so impressive times but wanted to hear what people had to say.

For both events I used Shell 93 V-Power. I'm sure it's a summer blended fuel here in GA and our options are limited. I'm going to switch away from Shell and hit the track again in a few weeks with a different fuel. I have not conducted any logging but will now...

Fuel can definitely be a contributing factor.. No more Shell for the RS.. I did not launch it in manual mode last weekend but will give a shot with the dragy and different fuel when I get back in the country.

I hear ya! I got a few spots I can try out once it cools down. Try mixing in a couple gallons of E85 see if that helps ya.

Throw in some E85. E25-E30 blend does wonders... 3-4 gallons should do it.

    2019 RS3 Dragy results

I had a chance to make a couple of valid runs and took 2 tenths off my previous 1/4 mile time. I did not really increase trap speed or have a better 60' but it seemed to run a little better on the road versus the drag strip. Hopefully the 2019 RS3 is a little like me. It just keeps gets better with more miles...
