P3 Gauge Oil Temp sensor recommendations?

Hey guys, I installed a P3 gauge and just obviously rushed the purchase not rewarding it’s capabilities. I mainly wanted it to show me oil temp without having to rotate through MMI each time to the lap timer screen just to see oil temp. Because I’m lazy. Apparently this info is not available over OBD?

According to P3, I need to use one of the two analog receivers. Anyone have a recommended oil temp sensor/sender to pair with this to make it work?

I don't mean to be dense here but the only time you would need to monitor oil temperature is maybe during a lap day And I'm having trouble seeing how toggling over to the lap timer with the oil gauge would be any more difficult than rigging up a secondary gauge To monitor the same thing.

I keep the lap timer up at all times and monitor oil temps that way. Mine does not reset to another screen when turning off the car, not sure if that’s your issue? Plus you can time yourself on the daily commute, LOL.

I monitor it daily as I do not go above 3,000 rpm until I hit 140F and to 6,000 rpm after 165F. Once I’m at 180F, I consider it safe to go to redline. Monitoring the temp gauge isn’t a good indicator as it’s a dummy gauge and the coolant always comes up to temp significantly faster than the oil.

The P3 should be able to monitor oilntemps but you’d have to figure out the voltage to temp slope. It is available through the OBD port as I can monitor oil temps with the VCDS. Probably need a custom PID.

Yeah same here, I just want to know in the mornings when I can use the full rev range. Yes, I can swap to lap timer but as I mentioned above, I’m lazy, and I like keeping it on one of the other display modes.

First world problems, but I want my shit the way I want my shit. Haha.

I highly recommend this gauge over the p3. Ive had three p3s and this is much more feature loaded

The Aeroforce gauge can display 2/4/8 parameters at once, including oil temp, DSG parameters, boost without needing a boost tap. Records, allows you turn cooling fans on, supports 35 parameters, warning lights, peak recall, on and on.
