    Question A6 C7 3.0TFSI Valve Covers and Head Gaskets

    Hi everyone,
    I have an A6 C7 3.0T and need to replace the valve covers and head gaskets. Can this be done without dropping / removing the engine?
    I had a quick look through the forum and didn't find information related to this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Not many have to do it on a 3.0, why do you need to do this?

    Also yes engine has to be removed to remove camshafts and timing chains they are rear mounted so transmission must be dropped and engine pulled. Doing it in my 4.0 rs7 as we speak

    It can be done in the car if you drop the power steering rack and are good in tight spaces. Not fun to do that way however.

    @3g_bishi.
    My car is 2012 with about 180k kms on the clock. Noticed an increase a EO consumption, within the space of 18 months going from about 1L per 4500 km to 1L per 3000 km. Also notice, occasional light white smoke out of the exhaust while waiting at stoplights, burnt oil smell even after casual (not hard) drives, oil on a couple of my spark plugs and oil seepage near the left head gasket (but no stains on the ground).

    Noted with thanks. I would be having it done at a workshop so am hoping that it will be cheaper, labour-wise, if the engine doesn't have to be dropped.

    Are you sure?the timing chain is in the back and has to be removed to let the heads off, the motor needs to come out on almost Audi’s after 2008 as far as I know. I could be wrong tho.
    Attached is a pick of my RS7 4.0 and I’m doing the heads on it myself. IMG_2374.JPGIMG_2374.JPG

    100% positive, seen it done. Master techs know some tricks on these cars.

    I know they can do just the cam gear chain and tensioner , but if they want to do the job right and to remove the head then they HAVE to take the engine out. Period.
