Will clay bar remove or damage ceramic coating?

    Thank you!

No, only compounding or sanding should remove a ceramic coating. It may damage the coating though. Clay bar is known to mar the surface when used improperly. Any reason why you want to clay bar the coating? If you go that route, use a ton of lubrication and little pressure.

It won’t remove the coating but it’ll swirl it up properly. People should learn that clay should be used only before paint correction

Thank you, that's what I was afraid of.

Any advice to clean a very dirty car that has very little protection from ceramic coating left? It's been sitting outside for a while and I want to spend some time to clean it this weekend, but not go as far as polishing the car and reapplying ceramic coating again.

I would just do a proper wash followed by some type of ceramic coating booster. I’ve never owned a ceramic coated car so I stick to Ammo skin and top it off with Hydrate every wash.

If it was sitting outside that’s fine.
If it was sitting outside below the trees you may have some issues in taking tree sap off.
Wash it first and see how it’ll look.

What brand ceramic you have on/how old is it?

    Thanks everyone for your feedback.

I ceramic coated my car about 1.5 year ago when new, knowing that the car will be left outside and I won't have time to wash it often. I should have done some reloads on the coating from time to time but i just simply forgot to, there not much protection left the last time I washed it.

I usually clay bar my car 1-2 times per year since I park under a tree, but I obviously haven't done that. I know i'll need to repolish and do the coating again soon but I don't have the time this month. I'll give it a really good wash this weekend and go from there. Thanks again!

What coating? The pores to your coating could simply be clogged and need to use something like IGL Delete to unclog it. The visual for a failed coating is lack of hydrophobic properties but a coating is usually present after that. Just the human eye cant tell and we use water properties to asses a coating

All you gotta do is use some iron X to bring back the life of the coating.

Yup, “We The North” use Magma from AutoGlym. No need to clay bar.

Just wanted to give everyone an update.
I end up using griots garage speed clay, and this worked really well and fast.

I first hosed the car, then foam cannon. Quick rinse with pressure washer. Then I foamed the car panel by panel and used the synthetic clay bar on wet soap with VERY gentle pressure.

This appeared to have "unclogged the pores" like one person said, and restored most of the hydrophobic property actually. Then I followed with McKee 37 reload spray. At the end the car was probably 75-80% of what the original ceramic coating was when it was newly applied. See picture please..
