How long does each phase of custom order take?

Like to know how long each stage takes, however right now my Audi Q8 is in production in Germany. Will be shipping to the USA in the midwest. Anyone know how long it usually takes from the time you are told your car is in production until it's shipping out from the port in Germany? And if you know any other shipping or transportation durations that would be helpful to. Note my audi specialist isn't very helpful so other than getting it in the email alert system or whatever it's called, can't get any other updates from them.

    Thanks.

    Hi JR,

I'd be happy to dig into this a little bit further for you and see what information I can uncover. Has your Audi Brand Specialist been able to provide you with the commission number of your vehicle? If so I can provide you additional information specific to your order. As a rule of thumb I don't like to provide general information on a particular timeline as things can vary for a multitude of reasons. Feel free to get back in touch with me at your convenience!

    Thank you,
    Vincenzo F.

    Thanks for the reply Vincenzo,

Unfortunately whenever I ask him for it he doesn't ever provide it. Something about there won't be any info until the car hits the USA so there is no build sheets or anything right now.

    Thanks.

    JR

Vincenzo is the most helpful & knowledgeable person for this type of information on this board.
Having said that - your dealer is pulling your piniata or worse. You Comm # is assigned at least by the time the order is accepted by the factory (which normally is right after you commit to the sale, assuming the dealer actually has an allocation). Running that Comm # will give you a lengthy list of "ETAs" including an initial ETA for arrival. As things progress they get more accurate but they tend to be somewhat inaccurate. My Q8 arrived 30 days earlier than the ETA & my TTS arrived exactly on the ETA date.
Don't know which dealer you're working with here in the Chicago area, but if that's how they're starting out (lying to your face) I'd be a little skeptical. Don't know your exact situation but from what I can tell there are a bunch of available Q8s of all flavors sitting on dealer lots in the Chicagoland area.

Not sure if this will help much, but my experience five years ago with my S4 was 91 days from deposit to me taking possession. I didn't get many progress updates from my dealer, but I DID get a ship date which I believe was accurate. The transatlantic trip on the RORO ship took 10 days to the port in Georgia. I tracked the ship on a website called www.marinetraffic.com. Then a few more days to the dealer.

This was the timeline of my SQ5 order 2 year ago.

Customer placed order at a dealership: 8/26/17; Audi rep says it takes 3 months but add a month buffer for unforeseen delays; found out from this site that sometimes dealers hold orders due to vehicle quotas
    Dealer submitted order: 9/13/17
Frozen to changes: 9/28/17; assigned production week 47 of 2017 (Audi rep did not provide production week info; info provided by Vincenzo at a later date)
    Production Complete: 11/22/17
Audi Rep contacted customer: 11/25/17 (Audi Rep did not know the vessel name; only knows it is coming soon; but Vincenzo provided the ship name so customer was able to track SQ5 from a free maritime/ship tracking website)
Vessel with SQ5 left Veracruz, Mexico Port: 11/28/17
Vessel arrived at Davisville, Rhode Island Port: 12/4/17; customs plus logistics to send SQ5 to the dealership
SQ5 arrived at the dealership in Bethesda, Maryland: 12/13/17
    Customer pick-up: 12/14/17

I put in a build on Feb 20th and Audi still has not accepted it. Hoping that accept it this week or next, followed by the 12 week wait, hopefully not longer. Hindsight I should have put in for the build in Jan....

I placed a 5k deposit with my dealer on Feb 18 and was told Mar 18 that I have been given a chassis no. ETA early Aug. I hope that helps. I wonder if chassis no. is tantamount to a comm. no.

The Volkswagen Group has started using the Baltimore, Maryland port since July 2020 to serve the mid-Atlantic region. Right now there is a huge back-up in Baltimore port customs, possibly related to COVID (reduced staffing). I hope the backlog will be cleared when your vehicles arrive.

Was wondering if you have any updates on your order? Was it built?

It totally depends on your dealers allocations. If they don’t have an allocation available then they can’t submit the order.

My SQ5 is scheduled to go into production the week after next, the week of May 24th.

I gave me dealer my order back in March 19th and it was accepted and accepted and locked in by Audi on (or before) April 6th.
