    SQ5 265/35/21’s

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey everyone,

I am looking to get new 21inch wheels and I’ve currently selected a 265/35/21 vs a 265/40/21 or the stock 255/40/21. Anyone have this setup on a car or have an opinion of what to expect?

    Thanks

Just bought some 265/35/21’s the other day to replace the stock tires. I’ll post pics when I get them on.

    You'll get:

    Better handling (rougher ride)
    More torque (lower mileage)
Less un-sprung weight (more wheel-well gap)
After your odometer shows you've driven 10K miles on them, know you'll have only gotten 9.7K (~2.5%) of actual driving. That's unnecessary depreciation.

If you're getting new wheels, get 21x9.5 with 285/35. That will get you back to the right RPM's, look good both on the wheel and on the car without poke, and provide much better grip. Check out the Wheel and Tire thread. Just today there are new pics of that exact size wheel and tire and it looks spot-on with the gen.2.

I was worried about more wheel gap but from some online tools it looks very minimal. Not sure if it’s better to loose out on mileage or pay extra for tires :)

IMHO. . .they put smaller tires on at the factory than what they were designed for. It saves them a ton of $$ and helps wind out that warranty a little quicker. That's a win-win for them. On the stock wheels, 265's fit the wheel better, look better, handle better, and the speedometer is more accurate. Just sayin'...

Do 285s fit on these wheels? There's not many options in/around the factory tire size but stepping up to 285 and 295 yields many more good All-Season options

Yeah that's pretty narrow for a 285. I think my Vette has 285s on the front and it's on a 9.5 inch wheel.

    SQ5 265/35/21’s

Most definitely 40s are the way to good. 265/35r21 shouldn’t even be in the discussion.

What brand/model tires are people going with in 265/40/21? I have the OEM SQ5 wheels and am looking to move up to 265/40/21 next time around. Live in SoCal so I don't need all season tires. Just a good summer tire with low road noise, ideally.

I bought P p-zero's and so far I like, granted it's only been a couple of days. Are OEM's 21x9? I thought they were 8.5 if so you might be limited with 255's but not 100% sure about that.

They are 8.5s but people have been able to run 265s apparently

Looks like the P-zero's will run off of 8.5, see the link but I also think it's tire specific.

You'll be able to fit 265.40.21 on the stock 21 rims even though its 8.5 inch wide. Itll be a little tight but I run spacers with it so itll be no problem

Its beefier with the 265's and looks better in my opinion.

Reviving... Are spacers required running 265/40 21 on stock wheels or will they fit with no rubbing? If required what size spacers f/r is minimum?

Spacers are not required for 265.40.21 but itll be a little tight. I run 15 front and 20 rear spacers on my 265.40.21 pilot sport.

Do you have pics of your setup with the spacers? Looking to add some spacers to my recently picked up SQ5 with the 21 oem wheels and the air ride. I would run the stock pirellis for now and down the line look for bigger tires.

Thanks Dhoang! Yeah pics would be great too if you have some. I don't mind spacers, just don't want to go too big and end up with it looking like a donk.
