Unhappy 18 S5 Door trim rattle noise....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

My front passenger door trim has this rattle noise for since last winter. The video was shot before fixing (hopefully you could hear through...). My dealer tried fix it once, I had the car back for about 2 month now, and the noise comes back, not as bad as it was but still very annoying since the road condition in Michigan is terrible...

Also, I found the all my door trims, there are very noticeable squeaking noise when you pressing them...

Just wonder if anyone find it is a common issue for B9 platform...

Really disappointed about the Audi trim quality considering the price I paid...

2 months to the 2 year anniversary, and so far, I already have 4 trim fixes, I will list them below, and only good thing the all mechanical parts are working well
    1. Drive seat leather cover replacement (1 year, and the side bolster area leather cracked...)
    2. driver side speaker cover melted after dealer did the AL trim recall
    3. AC controller.. the LED screen failed after 1 year
    4. Start button RED ring cracked after 1 year

And I had couple time the fuel cap latch cannot open properly, and with manual unlatch from the trunk followed by locking and unlocking the car, the issue can solve most time...

Please let me know if you had similar issue, or I might just be one of the unlucky person got these issues.

After spending some time in my RS5 I noticed the speaker cover trim would rattle under two conditions: (1) Car is stationary, but playing bass-heavy music or (2) Driving over rough roads, stereo completely off. The plastic speaker cover sitting on the plastic door panel is a recipe for disaster. It's hard to judge the sound from your video, but your rattle seems much louder than mine. I will admit to being extremely sensitive to any cabin rattle, noise, etc, likely more so than most others, so take my experience with a grain of salt. On my previous B8.5 S5 I found the door trim to rattle when driving on rough roads and I pushed foam underneath which helped but didn't fully eliminate the problem.

For the B9 RS5, I found a highly-rated car audio shop on yelp and explained the (2) issues above and said I wanted the doors taken apart and sound damping applied. They took off the door panel and told me it's basically just hollow inside and there's no way it WOULDN'T vibrate and make noise. He was shocked it came out of the factory this way. He told me they would definitely be able to fix the problem. They put dynamat all behind the door panel and used some adhesive to secure the speaker cover to the panel (all on the inside, obviously nothing visible from the cabin). They did an amazing job and they completely eliminated the vibrations and noise. Doubt I will spend a better $175 on my car for as long as I own it.

If anyone has similar issue and is in the Phoenix area I would be happy to recommend the audio shop.

Did they apply the dynamat to the sheet metal of the door or on the inside of the door card?

Out of curiosity did Audi replace your seats free of charge? Is there a limitation or timeframe? Mine cracked/creased incredibly quickly and I hate looking at them.

I don't know, I was in a waiting area and didn't see the inside of the door before they reassembled it. I suspect they did both, but that's just a guess.
