    A3 ECU tune noob

What’s up guys names james. I Just recently leased a 2019 A3 and was reading up on the ecu tune by APR. now forgive me but I’m a complete noob with tuning and modding. It’s kind of why I’m not too upset I didn’t get an s3 or rs3. I just wanted to get into an Audi and see where things go once I get my feet wet. Okay, anyways, from what I read on the apr website, this ecu tune requires NO engine modifications and it will get me 60+ more hp and tq? My question is: is that 100% accurate? Are there ANY mods I would need? What are the real risk here considering it’s a lease? Will it void my warranty? Could I revert it back to stock without it being detected?

Warranty will be void. Stage1 you dont need any supporting mods, I wouldnt mod a lease but that's me, if you really want to wake it up, get a downpipe, intercooler and a stage 2 tune, and the dsg tune

A have some friends with other car makes say they can just tune it back to stock if they have to bring it in for service. Is that possible with Audi? Also side note, I’m also a railroader

Vw/Audi can tell whether you flash back to stock or not, if your worried about warranty then get a downpipe and a jb4, you can make about st2 power with a jb4 and it easy to install and remove so if you go to the dealer just remove it, also probably should remove downpipe also if you went to the dealer depending on how cool your dealer is. Who do you work for, I work for union pacific

There’s always a risk that the car will be flagged as TD1. There are countless threads that talk about this. Best bet to go under the radar about a tune is a JB1 or JB4 which is a piggyback tune. I have a JB4 installed in my S3 and simply take it out before services/warranty work.

What’s the difference between a jb4 and apr tune?

Not an expert by any means but from my understanding, you’d get more power out of an APR tune (because it reflashes your ecu) compared to less power out of a JB1 but it doesn’t reflash your ecu (hence keeping your warranty in place)

It has nothing to do with power output. The APR tune is software that writes over the factory ECU programming, which is detectable by Audi. The JB1/4 is a physical device which plugs into various sensors and alters their readings, in order to make more power. Once removed, it’s not detectable by dealerships (in theory).
