I know the BFB engine came out with both 5 and 6 speed gearboxes, as MY BFB B6 has a 5 speed and my Friends BFB B7 has a 6 speed.

I fitted a B7 gearbox in my B6, you need the shifter box as well or the shifter rods to swap over.
Gearbox code is GVC, fifth gear on it is the same as sixth on your current gearbox, in sixth gear 2050 rpm's gives you 60mph.
Much better gearbox, more relaxed on long journeys.

    I did some research
And it appears that the BFB engine uses the same parts as the BEX engine
    (BFB 163hp BEX 190hp europe)

the GEA gearbox was delivered on the BEX engine at the time

The only different is the turbo/ecu/air intake
but in the engine block everything is the same

so I'm going to order the right parts in the coming weeks

coupling set for the 6 gears
    Shifterbox

should I also replace the dual mass flywheel?

just have to figure out if there are any brackets that are different from my original gearbox

BEX also has extra intercooler, different injectors, different mounting bracket and position for SAIP pump. Additional boost pipes for extra intercooler.
1.8t blocks are almost all the same except BAM which has additional internal strengthening.

Not sure my old car was BFB with quattro 5 speed, my current car is BEX with fwd and six speed.
