Seeing the price of E85 compared to the other rising prices of California unleaded makes it tempting. Of course you burn xx% more but wow.

E-85 aside, I feel for you on the absolute prices for gasoline in CA.
On the other hand, I have not seen 10 cent jumps from regular to mid-grade to premium in years. You're lucky on that point, as I have to put premium in my cars and its usually 40-50 cents higher than regular here.

I thought about the E-85 and the 91 oct prices in the past and I can summarize it a little bit:

With E-85 is cheap to fill but you fill more often while with the pump gas it cost more but you don't burn as much fuel and therefore the real winning component is the power. So price and gas mileage null each other out but the real benefit is the power produced when using Ethanol.

On different note, Cali is just ridiculous but I think that they have good incentives on other types of powered cars(hydrogen, hybrid, electric)
8V RS3 [email protected] mph (ran a few 11.7s stock and ran 118+mph several times)
8Y RS3 k&N filter ran [email protected] (ran 11.6 5 times and trapped 120+ several times)
    at 3100ft elevation

You burn 33% more if all other conditions like boost are the same so you can use that in your calculations for cost savings.

Depending on where you live in California, Pearson's fuels runs specials on E-85 from time to time for $1.85 a gallon and I have seen them go as low as .85 a gallon which is insane.

At those prices ... which don't reflect the rest of the US ... E85 makes the most sense. Oh and you can't put a price on winning or the smile it will put on your face!

Really should be changing your oil every 2500 to 3500 miles with E85 also, so don't forget to add the extra oil changes into the equation.

Yeh but you get 50hp for free compared to 93, more compared to 91, basically no matter what stage of tuning, of course you have to tune for it though.

But its all irrelevant, You guys in the USA have no reason to complain about fuel prices at all lol

Here in aussie land e85 is $4usd/gallon, 93oct is $5usd/gallon, 89oct is $4usd/gallon and even we have great compared to those in europe

any evidence to this? I'm coming from a FBO n54 that I ran E85 to E50 for 50k miles straight and changed oil every 5-6k. no issues.

With the ethenol in the gas it blends into the oil and dilutes it fairly fast, so safe side is to change it a little bit more frequently to prevent any issues.

On a worn engine or lose built engine, yes. On the rs3 I test my oil every 1000k miles and I'm doing 5k changes and recommending that to ethanol tune customers also. I have had nearly zero alchohol dilution with my oil.
