No rSAP "Carphone" profile using MIB2 & Samsung Galaxy S8 (Android 9.0)

    Hi folks.

My A7 2015 face-lift with MIB2 / Navigation plus was running the factory code mhi2_er_aug11_p0034. The the rSAP "Carphone" profile was not available when connecting my Samsung Galaxy S8 G950F running Android 9.0 to the MIB2 unit over Bluetooth. Only the hands-free profile was available which worked fine for calls but it meant I could not share my phones data connection with the car. Yesterday the car was upgraded to mhi2_er_au57x_p3634 and to my surprise the "Carphone" profile is also not available when connecting the phone via Bluetooth.

My understanding is both the phone and the MIB2 head-unit support rSAP connectivity so I am at a loss as to why this is not working. My alternative is to purchase a data sim for the car but my work pays for unlimited data on my mobile so the ideal situation is to use rSAP. I have tried deleting all phone pairings in the MIB2 and reconnecting but each time only the hands-free, audio, contacts and messaging profile show up as selectable profiles.

Curious to know Has anyone managed to get rSAP/Carphone profile working on the MIB2 system and the Samsung Galaxy S8? My phone is the single sim version (I have heard dual sim Galaxy phones do not work with rSAP).

    Thanks!

youre post is a little technical for me...but i think I am correct in stating that your phones data cannot be shared with the car.

i am assuming you're trying to use audi connect services and google maps by using your phones data? unfortunately the data sharing is only "one way".
sim card in MMI can provide data to phone.
phone cannot provide data to MMI.

in the US the the only (proper) way to have data services in the car (audi connect and google maps) is to pay about $20 per month for s specific audi connect plan and use a sim in the MMI.

    I’m in UK.

I have a Galaxy Note 9, running Android 9.0 (twin SIM) and connect fine with my MIB2. Also running Android Auto.

On initial setting up the phones Bluetooth connection there was an option to use car SIM or Phone SIM for calls & data via rSAP. I initially used phone SIM for Audi connect services, though later put in a car SIM, as that gives some additional features like tracking the car location etc.

Are you able to pair the phone at all?

Hey RAF_S7 I am in Ireland!

Yes this is what I am talking about - so when I attempt to connect over Bluetooth (all pairings deleted in the MIB2) I do not get the option to connect to car sim or phone sim for calls and data via rSAP. All I get is the option to connect to the "hands-free" profile which means calls can be made through the cars Bluetooth system but the phones data connection is not available to the MIB2 system like it would if rSAP was available.

I too have ordered a Sim card but I am more curious as to why rSAP does not work when I know it should.

    Thanks!

Have a look at your MMI handbook - either the physical copy, or online vie your MyAudi profile.

Pages 59/60 detail how to connect your handset with rSAP functionality.

I don’t believe you need to enable anything other than Bluetooth on your phone.

Thanks RAF_S7 that's just it. I'm following all the steps but the carphone profile just does not show up when connecting via Bluetooth to the MIB2. My phone appears to be on the Audi compatibility list also. I'm at a loss as to why rSAP isn't available.
